Fox Studios were unhappy with the film, and didn't market it or add any promotional materials. There is controversy as to whether or not this had something to do with the strong "anti-corporation" theme throughout the movie. In the end they opened the movie in under 10 cities in the USA. This was possibly a bad move as the critics who got to see the film were apparently very positive in their reviews. Despite the film's limited release, word of mouth caused it to attract a huge cult following in years since.
Fairly well. Reviews ranged from glowing praise to faint admiration, but bad reviews were and are very rare.
