  • First of all, this is not a Ferhan Sensoy movie, he only acts in it.

The popular writer, director and actor of Turkish theaters, delivers some trademark dialogs but "Sans Kapiyi Kirinca" which could be interpreted as "When Luck Breaks Down the Door" to English, is not his work.

The movie is important as a rare opportunity to see Ferhan on the silver screen, because not all has the chance to see him in flesh acting at his own theater.

The story is familiar, it reminded me Ivan Reitmans' "Dave" (Kevin Kline-Sigourney Weaver), and Paul Mazursky's "Moon over Parador" (Richard Dreyfuss).

Yurdum family wins a trip to Barboonia, an unknown (fictional) island in the Caribbean, and things start to get going when the guy in the hotel reception realize that the father of the family Kuddusi, played by Sensoy, looks exactly like Carlos, the president of Barboonia.

President Carlos who is trying to avoid a routine suicide attempt, jumps on the opportunity and makes a plan to use Kuddusi as bate.

Almost entire movie was shot at Cuba which could be an attraction who are fond of the place.

"Sans Kapiyi Kirinca" loses its tempo from time to time and some of the jokes are so used that you can't even smile. But there are enough interesting and funny parts to make the experience amusing.

Not a great piece for Sensoy fans, but he makes it worthy to watch, and if you don't know the master, this could be a decent chance.
  • When I go to see Turkish movies, I always have this feeling that I will not like that film and that I will criticize strongly every thing that I didn't like. But this time there was a difference. The acting of Ferhan Sensoy and the other artists was amazing, the quality of the jokes were better than usual. The idea to take the subject, that the Turks bring along their customs every where they go, as a theme was very interesting and funny. Being a Cypriot i also experience this here in Cyprus. I would also like to congratulate the brave and creative director Tayfun Guneyer. Although he is not a very experienced director and this is his first project, he was brave enough to film the movie in Cuba (The movie was originally filmed in Cuba.) which I believe is an innovation for the Turkish Cinema. I suggest that everybody should see this film, specially those who are familiar with the Turkish customs.

Turkish Cinema has a big problem. Directors aren't interested in global cinema. They are local and folkloric, but want to be international. This brings kitsch results such this movie.

Film has jokes translated to Spanish from Turkish and they don't have any meaning for non-Turkish audiences. Even for Turkish audiences after 10 years.

Players, even Ferhan SENSOY have a worse acting than average. They act like puppets.

Movie was shot in Cuba, but nothing includes about Cuba. So Cuba is thought like a banana republic.

Waste of money, waste of time.
  • A good innovative piece of work from Turkish Cinema.. A film with the usual Turkish punch lines and sexually frustrated humour..

I believe that this is a good move towards a new generation of cinema production within the country that is diverted not only geographically but socially between the western and eastern elements of humanity..

Sans Kapiyi Kirinca - is a great example of good artistic and aesthetic cinema with a positive feel.. A simple laugh for 90 mins..

Talented cast such as Ferhan Sensoy - Tamer Karadagli and the master himself Sinan Cetin (Sinan needs to be pushed into the international category as that obviously where he belongs/ Turkish cinema needs a lot more time and nurturing before it could even be considered into Sinan's league.)

In a whole, a good laugh, excellent picture and amazing soundtrack.. This piece is for the audience similar to myself who are pessimistic over Turkish Cinema and have strong opinions about the culture and for those who want to see a Latin-Turkic mixture of Language and sociology.
  • An warm, happy and funny movie with a classic plot where things go wrong all the time. But it does avoid the platitude and completes it's mission successfully: to entertain! Also has a different point of view of the genre with a Turkish edge to it!

The story starts of with a Turkish family winning a trip to Barboonia (completely fictional island country) as a consolation from a TV show. You will mostly laugh out loud as they indulge in adventures a size too big for them, but they keep their cool all the way through.

The leading actor, Ferhan Sensoy,is a very famous one in Turkey especially in theater, and this is one of his few movies. He is very good in both of the characters (the father of the family and president Carlos of Barboonia) but most of the supporting actors are just as good.

The colors and the atmosphere of the film are also cheerful and pleasant that contribute to the positive feeling. It was mostly filmed in Cuba, so it does have a Latin touch to it.

In short, you will not be satisfied if you are looking for the meaning of life, or a manifesto of some kind. But if you are looking for fun, this is the movie!
