  • OK, it's kind of hard to review a stand-up show with a heavily rotating cast. Sometimes, yes, it stank. But that's because sometimes stand up stinks.

Other times it was so funny it made you choke. And I am going to review principally the times that it was so funny you couldn't breathe...because those times far outweighed the bad times.

And you saw some brilliant up and commers that were still so hungry they fought hard for each laugh.

In its time and place it was brilliant, and part of an HBO comedy line up that has yet to be topped.

Shows like this don't come around enough, and the new ones that try to emulate it do far too much to actually win the world over.
  • I think this is such an important show with a huge fanbase for it to have such a poor page- as of 2020/06/13 the imdb information re:Def Comedy Jam is minimal, there's not even a complete seasons list! The whole page looks like a draft, I was really not expecting this. By 2020, there's almost EVERYTHING submitted on the IMDb, I have found even the worst kind of toxic garbage documented here, but this World Famous, iconic HBO show --I guess not! I shall make a start with things I can find around in Google, (even if not accurate enough, still better than NOTHING!) but I sincerely hope that more people will come to help soon

This was a great comedy show that gave alot of then unknown comedians their big break(Steve Harvey, Chris Tucker, Bill Bellamy, D. L Hughley, Bernie Mac and the list goes on and on and Martin Lawrence was ALWAYS funny as the host and to be honest I kinda loss interest in the show after Martin left, he was that big of an impact to this show, Joe Torry was ok as the new host but he could never fill Martin shoes.
  • A hit and miss comedy stand up show that stands and falls with its respective artists in an understandable way. Sometimes funny and entertaining and sometimes stupid and shallow. Often this is simply due to comedic preferences and personal taste.
