Margarete Steiff is portrayed as the inventor of the Teddybear. However the teddy bears that were produced in the Steiff factory (with moving arms) were created by her nephew Richard Steiff. However he is not portrayed in the movie.
In the first scene Margarete Steiff is creating her famous teddy-bear and the bankers are mentioning the economy crisis, which would set the story in 1902, when she was 55. However Heike Makatsch is portraying her looking her own age, which is 35.
Fritz Steiff died in 1900, while in the movie he is witnessing the economy crisis of 1902.
During her time in the sanatorium Margarete is sitting in a wheelchair. She spent her time in the sanatorium in 1856 but the wheel chair the way it was shown in the movie was presented in 1873 at the Paris World Fair.
