"The Wicker Man" is not a good movie. There, now that that's out of the way, I can tell you that this movie is certainly worth seeing. Not in the way you would think of it, however, because "The Wicker Man" is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I would rank it up there with "Airplane!" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." What's the best part about this? This film is supposed to be a horror movie. I wasn't scared at all. In fact, I couldn't be scared, or even shocked, because there were parts where I couldn't stop laughing.
The acting is terrible. Nicolas Cage is an incredibly wooden actor, delivering almost all of his lines in the same monotone voice, (although the more memorable parts of this movie are when he gets angry). The plot...? What plot, this movie makes no sense at all. And when the point of the movie is to scare the audience, this movie fails miserably. The music also sometime seems incredibly inappropriate, even laughable.
So if you can stand the bad parts of this movie, and enjoy it as it should be watched, you may find yourself a "Wicker Man" fan. I did.

How did THIS masterpiece go overlooked? Such a great movie. It's one of those movie for movie buffs really, but I'm sure even the broader mainstream audience will pick on its genius. That's what this is: sheer genius.
It might be unintentionally so, but how many times do you see a --Bear Suit-- in the final act of a film being pulled out with such nonchalant bravery? The beginning might leave you a little confused, but the moment you catch that horrible acting delivered by the police buddy you get a hint of what's to come: a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. Many lines of dialog are sure to become cult classic, such as "Phallic symbols, phallic symbols", "The bees are in my eyes", "How'd it get burned? X 4", "Step away from the bike" and many others.
It could use a little trimming in the editing, but the slow moments are crucial to enhance the precision with which it walks on the fine line that separates farce from tragedy. Highly recommended to any film fan or to anybody looking for some (many) laughs.

I find it hilarious how everyone is having exactly the same opinion and giving the same rating with one star.
How bad must something be to give it 1 star? It like going to a restaurant and giving it one star because at least you got some food? Come on! Because of this attitude I just had to register at imbd and give it 10/10. Even if it's just annoying other.
It's a classic Nicolas Cage movie in which people but an effort in. It might not be the best, but in comparison what movies get produced nowadays it's still better than a lot of them. And the fact Nicholas Cage is starting in it makes it alone watchable enough.

Very underrated. People don't understand that this could make a great dark comedy. Even the great Cage said it himself. Sure, it was categorized as a horror but the important thing is how we see a movie. Maybe it wouldn't be good if we view it one way, but if we view it differently then we can enjoy this film. I mean, you get to see Nic Cage do a bunch of wacky stuff like wear a bear suit. I mean, what more do you need? Nicolas Cage shows that he can portray really any role, from something like The Wickerman, to serious roles such as Leaving Las Vegas. People say that Cage's career went down with roles like this, but in reality, it shows how capable of an actor he is. He can be serious in some scenes, to absolutely crazy in another. This is shown best in this movie. From a serious conversation, to the outrageous, infamous "bee scene." It shows the Cage's skill as an actor, and he can really portray any kind of character.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I don't know what people found humorous about it though.
It had a consistent flow, complex plot, and fascinating concept. Not to mention the twist was executed splendidly.
Not a horror whatsoever, more of a mystery. Also, the situation of which complicated the main character's direction towards his overall goal made things really interesting.
To enjoy any movie you can't just assume, be prejudice, or take anyone else's opinions and not except it if it doesn't live up to your expectations. If you haven't seen or read a story you need to pay attention and find everything else out for yourself. Keep an open mind.

Visionary director Neil LaBute has fashioned a motion picture that is not a remake but a beautifully realized personal interpretation of the original source material. Sensitively observed and carefully crafted, this is a film that is breathtaking in its imagery and quite disturbing in its haunting surrealism. An outstanding cast is uniformly excellent and the characters in this story are as gripping as they are fantastical. Nicolas Cage gives one of his finest performances in a role fashioned originally by the great Edward Woodward and Cage manages to make that iconic character uniquely his own. LaBute's depiction of a sinister alien culture is accentuated by his creation of a heavy atmosphere of fear, dread, and ultimately overwhelming terror. He takes tremendous risks with his reinterpretation of the classic film and they pay off spectacularly. Courageous artistic choices and creative vision make this Wicker Man a stunning motion picture experience.

Most fanatics of the original seem to be having a difficult time seeing how good this movie is. I prefer it to the original which seems to have been made for college pot-heads. This remake was more clear. The acting was great, as was the setting. The humor was in fact intentional. The ending was amazing, much like the original only without a bunch of drunken B-list actors singing some goofy song.
I think (in fact I know from the reaction of people I was with in the theater) that people who have never seen the original -- and that's a lot of people -- will enjoy this very interesting and beautifully made movie.
Thank you for making this much needed remake.

This movie is immediately going on my top 5 movies of all time list. I can see how people who are expecting a horror don't like it. Expecting this to be a horror however is like expecting "Get Shorty" to be a mafia drama. This movie had me laughing out loud more than any comedy I've seen this year. What this movie does is takes a man and shows how he reacts to a completely different society than he was raised in. The behavior he displays to the locals can only be described has hilarious. Make no mistake about it though THIS IS NO HORROR MOVIE! If your looking to see a good horror flick don't waste your time go see the Grude 2 or something. That said this is the summers sleeper hit folks now get out there and see it!!

i think that people should understand that a movie should be able to entertain...well guess what, i was. OK, i ll agree that this remake isn't bether than the original one, it surly isn't Oscar material and the acting wasn't either. you would expect more from such a cast.
but if you haven't seen the original and you don't have the opportunity to do so, its worth a rent. actually its worth a rent either ways. i mean, if you say that this is the worse movie you have ever seen, you haven't seen nothing. it isn't a great movie, surly it isn't gonna be a classic, but it ain't the worst. normally i would give it a 6 out of ten,but in this case, ill give it a 10 out of 10, just to even the score.
ps. sry for my grammar

I don't quite understand all these negative reviews. The movie is not a masterpiece, but it was fun to watch on TV on Sunday night. And that's all that matters of this type of a movie. I gave it 10 for: 1-Holding my attention to the very end; 2-For not having a happy end (not typical for a Hollywood movie). Not the ending majority would expect/want/like. I think that's the real reason people are giving mostly negative reviews; 3-I liked how main character treats crazy women. I was laughing after he made his first punch )) 4-For making me go to IMDb and write my first review ) 5-and to contribute to movie's rating on IMDb, because I think it must be in 5-6 area. Many thanks to Nicolas for good work!

Notice how I said comedy. If you look at this film as a horror movie, you'll come to realize that it is quite possible the worst feces of film reel ever to disgrace the silver screen. However, looking at it as a light hearted, and somewhat cruel comedy when pertaining to beating up women who look like they couldn't quite get out of the quaker age, it is a brilliant achievement in side-splitting and loss of oxygen, because Cage never fails to disappoint as a comedic actor.
Yet, I still have to see leaving Las Vegas.
It's honestly hit or miss with Cage. Ghost rider was a miss. This was fortunately both.

Completely unexpecting and terrifying, The Wickerman is a must see. I saw this movie last weekend and found the movie a lot better than expected. Nicholas Cage performed magnificently to pull off the sick twist to the story.
Unlike the original movie that took place on a remote mysterious Scottish island, this movie brought to life a sheltered community in the Puget Sound off the Washington coast.
Based on old 70's flick, a story written by Anthony Shaffer, Neil LaBute (producer) brought back this horror to big screen with a thrilling 21st century roller-coaster bang.
Here's a quick synopsis: The main character goes on a journey to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. He discovers that the locals are weird and unhelpful, and becomes determined to get to the bottom of the disappearance.
Loved it.

As always Cage puts on an excellent performance which really holds the movie together. Unlike the original wicker ma it does not contain the the religious element of the main character but only of the inhabitants of the island. A tad bit repetitive but on the whole a captivating 2 hours with brilliant performances from the majority of actors and a shocking twist at the end if your watching it for the first time. Basically it is about a group of bizarre pagan inhabitants on an island who have strange sexual rituals. When a girl goes missing on the island, cage, who is a cop in the movie, is called in by his former lover (whos girl it is), to investigate. Arriving on this island he observes the strange behaviour of its people and slowly unfolds a spine-tingling plot.
Saw this film a long time ago and was slightly impressed. Saw the original decades ago and was not impressed in any good way.
I rewatched both the original from 1973, which blew me away, and then this remake. I am isolating during this pandemic and must work hard to maintain interest in life.
I had to pay $ in order to see them. Money well spent.
I think it was simply ahead of its time. It's an excellent scary film
