- Drama based on the leged of La Llorona
- Two boys are playing by a river when their ball falls into it. One goes to retrieve it but hears a woman crying out. The other boy taunts him, asking if he was scared because la Llorona was going to get him. The boy insists that la Llorona is not real. The scene then switches to a party in Panama in the year of 1910 where everyone is celebrating the fifteenth birthday of Esperanza. The festivities continue on into the night and Esperanza sneaks away to meet with Ricardo, her lover. Ricardo tells her that he will be going away for six months or a year but also tells her that he misses her and loves her. The two began kissing and make love. Ricardo promises that he will talk to his father about their relationship and he would come back for her. The two depart and Esperanza returns to the party. Some time later, Esperanza becomes sick and realizes she is pregnant. Her parents are outraged by their young daughter having a child out of wedlock and send her away to live with her aunt Lupe who lives out in the middle of nowhere. Esperanza's pregnancy progresses and tries contacting Ricardo through letters but to no avail. She finally gives birth and Lupe goes to tell her parents. When she returns, she brings the news that Ricardo is getting married. Esperanza is devastated. She runs off to a nearby river with her baby where, in the throes of heartache, she drowns the child. Afterwards, she returns, disheveled and in shock, to see her family and Ricardo have arrived. Ricardo tells Esperanza that he is not getting married and has told his father about her and the baby. Realizing what she has done, Esperanza breaks down and runs away, crying for her child. Back in the present day with the two boys, they pull their ball out from the river but are startled by a woman's disembodied wailing and they run away in fear.
