Step Up

FAQ

After vandalizing the stage at the Baltimore Maryland School of the Arts, street dancer Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is sentenced to 200 hours of community service at the school. At first, Tyler merely helps the janitor clean up messes, but he is later spotted dancing in the parking lot by ballet dancer Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan). When Andrew (Tim Lacatena), Nora's partner in the Senior Showcase, sprains his ankle, Tyler offers to rehearse with her. Through dancing with and getting to know Nora, Tyler gains a new outlook on life and tries to enroll in the school as a student. Then Andrew returns to take his place in the Showcase, and it looks like all of Tyler's plans will go up in smoke.

Step Up is based on a screenplay by American screenwriters Duane Adler and Melissa Rosenberg. It is followed by four sequels: Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) (2008), Step Up 3D (2010) (2010), Step Up Revolution (2012) (2012), and Step Up All In (2014) (2014).

When Andrew leaves Nora partner-less, she reworks the routine as a solo. However, just before the Senior Showcase is about to begin, Tyler shows up and offers to dance with her. At first hesitant, Nora finally agrees, and they go back to the routine they practiced together. With Miles (Mario) directing the orchestra, they deliver a spectacular performance, receiving a standing ovation. Nora gets offered a position in a dance company. When the talent scout asks Principal Gordon (Rachel Griffiths) about the male lead, she replies that Tyler is a transfer student, then whispers quietly to Tyler, "Don't forget to send me your transcripts." In the final scene, Nora and Tyler kiss, and Nora reminds him that he's going to have to get some tights.
