- Dr. Isbell: [as Emily sees if her baby is healthy] Emily, I have to ask you a sensitive question. It's in the interest of your baby's health and yours.
- Emily Wendell: [smiles] Of course. What is it?
- Dr. Isbell: Who's the father?
- Emily Wendell: [frowns at her in shock] I can't believe you asked me that! Ted is the father!
- Dr. Isbell: Ted had a vasectomy two years ago.
- [Emily goes awestruck]
- Dr. Isbell: I assumed you knew.
- Emily Wendell: No, that can't be true! He would've told me!

- Young Ted: [Emily's flashback] Let these scars always remind you: There's no crashing God's party. There's no comfort in getting to heaven, unless you're invited.
- Emily Wendell: [as Ted is about to kill her] Do you know how much I loved to watch you preach? You whispered the message of hope in my ear and gave me a reason to live. You were right about one thing, Ted: "There's no crashing God's party".
