Things start to go wrong at the company's annual dinner dance when Colin and Jackie are seated with friends, but Howard and Pauline have to sit at the management table. Matters get worse when Colin hits the dance floor with the new regional manager's wife. Then, Colin and Jackie splash out on a holiday to Florida but then Colin fails an alcohol test and gets fired from Sherpa. Meanwhile, Pauline feels neglected by Howie. And, Colin's daughter Brooke gets a new boyfriend.

The two friends talk about starting a new company together--until Howard gets an offer to return to his old job. As Howie gets back behind the wheel of his company car, Colin finds a gig driving a taxi.

Colin and Howie going stag, attend their high school reunion at Newcastle, triggering an old animosity for one, and an old romance for the other. When Colin learns that Howie is still seeing his childhood sweetheart, he is torn between loyalty to his friend and telling Pauline. Howie also must decide whom he really loves.

Colin wants a promotion, and takes charge of the company's soccer team to prove to his bosses that he can be more than just a van driver, and has the necessary leadership potential and decision-making capabilities. Howie backs him, only to find out just how ruthless his friend can be. Meanwhile, the landlord of the local pub takes a shine to Jackie when she joins the snooker team.

The death of his estranged father creates tension between Colin and his brother and sister. When his father-in-law also suffers a major heart attack, his is forced to rethink what family really means to him.

When Howie and Pauline decide to move to the country, Colin does his best to sabotage their plans. First, though, the two families take a short fishing trip to the countryside for the weekend together. Jackie and Pauline find out from Eric they have a long-lost half sister, who turns out to be a lesbian. Meanwhile, Colin and Howie head off for a day of lake fishing. But the trip soon relocates to the local pub, where they make a big impression on the locals. Howie soon discovers that the countryside isn't as relaxing as he had expected. The boys get drunk and disturb a shotgun-wielding farmer who attempts to hunt them down.
