An experiment it is

Something that could have only came when the internet was still mysterious in its working. But that doesn't change how philosophical and experimental it is, and beyond all focuses on emotions through an archetype that gets sidelined and turns into a unique experience. Even though it ends as a bit of a failed attempt to be Neon Genesis Evangelion this is still an amazing feat in visual media for executing something like this and not just dying in the minds of the brilliant people who made it.

A cult work: a philosophical and psychological complexity behind the world of the internet and computers.

This anime series is remarkably intriguing by virtue of its perspectives on a historical context in which the rise and spread of computers and the internet took place. Although I personally was not fortunate enough to live through that era, it is possible for me to conceive of the nature of those times. It was extremely foolish to ignore the potential of a different, alternative world that was housed in the realms of computers and the internet, and to deprive oneself of talking about, experiencing or even fantasising about such technology. Hence I find this anime interesting, which, although it may seem complex at first, becomes fascinating as we analyse the evolution of the protagonist, Lain.

It is true that its complexity, confusion and possible slowness could discourage some viewers, but its value lies precisely in its philosophical, psychological, materialistic and spiritualistic potential, which has made it a cult work for a certain audience. Through the series, the audience is invited to reflect and contemplate on a world, reality or context that is present in our daily lives today. However, I can't help but think that this work will go unnoticed or even forgotten. I feel that it does not stand out enough, but, even so, it deserves to be seen for its unique style.

A solid series.

A solid series. The story was great and well laid out, the paseing of the series is good from begining to end, it was more tense than thaught provokeing, but it did have its points. Some think its slow and hard to follow, I for one didnt. Its the kind of series where action is left out and mood setting is important. I like that kind of series. You need to have some extent of computer jargon and interest if you want to get the most of the series. Average 9.2(10)

This show predicted the future

It is almost uncanny that this show came out 20 years ago and did predicted how the internet works today. The show is visually beautiful and has a slow burn it keeps you interested and what is going to happen next with a good suspenseful atmosphere.

However, the show can sometimes be hard to follow and there is a couple potholes and some stuff happens that straight up doesn't make any sense, also the voice acting can be anywhere from okay to straight up bad.

But all in all I would recommend this show it's something I'm glad I watched it. If you want something different or You are just a fan of retro anime, I would say definitely check this out.

Beautifully abstract and thought provoking

This is a series people will either love or hate, it's very abstract and minimalist in many ways but touches on many interesting subjects. In many ways it was incredibly prophetic about how the Internet would impact society, and with tech like VR emerging it will likely only get more relevant over time.

They took a lot of unique artistic choices with the art style and story and it's understandable they wouldn't appeal to everyone. But if you get into it the show takes you on an amazing ride that is uniquely trippy and artistic and daringly abstract and ahead of it's time.

An Unreviewable Masterpiece

I find myself unable to come up with a sufficient review for this series, as words are not enough to describe the madness and brilliance of this masterpiece. It's existence is purely subjective, so my perspective on it is merely a disservice to its experience. Do yourself a favour and watch this anime, at least once in your life.

Worth a bite

Look, I'm not some intellectual, I didn't even get close to truly grasping what goes on in this show.

But I loved it. Very long winded, twists, turns and wait wots. It took loads of great elements and smashed them together, I like an anime that gives me the impression that I've just inhaled something deep.

Philosophically it's toying with a bunch of concepts, storywise it get's increasingly delirious as reality blurs and I'd say on the whole it's really just a damn trippy movie that will totally spin your nut.

Weird but lovable.
