- Wayne Palmer: [Through video conference] the President is not going to make any decisions until he knows what we're dealing with so give me all the parameters Tony
- Tony Almeida: Basically what we have here is a terrorist demand: someone close to Ramon Salazar, we're guessing his brother Hector is demanding his release. If we don't comply, his threatening to initiate an outbreak of a very deadly and fast acting virus
- Wayne Palmer: How do we know if these people are really in possession of it?
- Tony Almeida: I've got Dr. Sunny Macer on the line. She's Technical Director of National Health Services I'll let her address that
- Dr. Sunny Macer: Mr. Palmer, about an hour ago a dead body was anonymously delivered to our office. It was infected with a type three pneumonic virus deliberately introduced into his system. This virus kills within twenty-fours of exposure and there's no known antidote or vaccine. What's particularly disturbing is how fast it spreads. Take a look
- Dr. Sunny Macer: [Uploading images of people infected] as you can see, it's latent for several hours but once the symptoms are present it consumes the host rapidly
- Michelle Dessler: Our office will be sending you preliminary projections of causalities in case something like this should be unleashed
- Tony Almeida: [to Wayne] I've got to tell you, it's pretty bleak
- Wayne Palmer: I don't understand this. I mean I thought we "knew" what biological threats were out there? Now do we find ourselves up against the wall so suddenly that something isn't even on our radar?
- Dr. Sunny Macer: This is a strain we've never seen. The autopsy is confirming that someone has engineered this virus to kill ten times faster than ordinary genotypes
- Wayne Palmer: Ok. I see
- Dr. Sunny Macer: Sir, I can't underscore enough how potentially devastating it would be if this virus was released by terrorists
- Tony Almeida: Given this information: what options will the President be looking at?
- Wayne Palmer: It's the unwavering policy of the United States to stand firm against any terrorist demands. Now I know the President, he will not release Salazar, no matter what the threat is
- Tony Almeida: Alright then we can't waste any time on standard protocol today. We've been given five hours to comply, if we're going to find these people and stop this threat, then CTU needs to have every possible resource at its disposal
- Wayne Palmer: You'll have it
- Tony Almeida: Alright, now if we have nothing else to discuss I'd like to get my team back to work
- Wayne Palmer: Understood
- Tony Almeida: Thank you
- Kim Bauer: [Over the phone] dad, it's me
- Jack Bauer: What Kim?
- Kim Bauer: Adam and I just found something on Goss: we're working it up now. We should have an address pretty soon
- Jack Bauer: OK, good work
- Kim Bauer: and remember I want to talk to you
- Jack Bauer: Why? Is something wrong?
- Kim Bauer: [as Chase enters Jack's office] no, I was just wondering if I could come up for a few minutes for something personal
- Jack Bauer: Sweetheart now's not a good time. As soon as I get a moment, I'll come down ok?
- Kim Bauer: [Before hanging up] yeah, thanks
- Chase Edmunds: Their getting close to Goss
- Chase Edmunds: [Referring to his heroin addiction] you didn't shoot up did you?
- Jack Bauer: What?
- Chase Edmunds: You think you can hide it from me?
- Jack Bauer: I'm not trying to hide it from you. I'm trying to quit
- Chase Edmunds: Ok, people don't just quit
- Jack Bauer: I've been tapering off, ok? Now it's time to stop
- Chase Edmunds: It doesn't look like it's time. Today is not a good day for you needing a fix
- Jack Bauer: [Intentionally changing the subject] why don't you go work with Chloe to pin down a location on Hector Salazar?
- Chase Edmunds: What's wrong with the Methadone program? It takes a little time but it works
- Jack Bauer: I am not going on record with this addiction, do you understand me? Right now you're the only person that knows about it so it'll stay that way
- Chase Edmunds: This nothing to be ashamed of: you did this in the line of duty. Doing junk was the only way you could get close to Salazar, nobody's going to knock you for that
- Jack Bauer: I know what I did. This conversation's over, just get back to work
- Chloe O'Brian: I just looking at playback of the Health Services briefing
- Chase Edmunds: What about it?
- Chloe O'Brian: The government's not going to let this happen are they? I mean Salazar is just one person: no matter how bad he is
- Chase Edmunds: Forget all of that. We need to operate under our orders and that's to find the carrier of this virus
- Chloe O'Brian: Find the carrier? In the next four hours? Come on, that's not likely, is it?
- Chase Edmunds: Not if we sit here and debate it, weren't you supposed to modify a list of Goss associates?
- Chloe O'Brian: Kim's bringing it up now
- Chase Edmunds: Great. Then go over the autopsy report, see if there's anything they overlooked
- Chloe O'Brian: Fine
- Kim Bauer: Here are the files on Goss
- Chase Edmunds: I heard you talked to your dad earlier when I was in his office: why do you want to tell him today?
- Kim Bauer: Because it's not a big deal
- Chase Edmunds: Well, it is a big deal. Not only do I work for him, but I'm also a field agent. It's the last thing he wants for his daughter
- Kim Bauer: How do you know that?
- Chase Edmunds: I know, ok? I mean he talks about things, about how he was never there for you or your mom. He doesn't believe a field agent could ever have a relationship outside of work
- Kim Bauer: Did you ever stop and think that maybe it would make him happy? That his daughter finally found someone she loves?
- Kim Bauer: Look, I love you too. I just don't think today's a good day
- Kim Bauer: [Outside his office] hey dad
- Jack Bauer: Hey sweetheart
- Kim Bauer: You alright?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah, why? What's going on?
- Kim Bauer: Chase said you were really stressed out
- Jack Bauer: Stressed? What'd you mean stressed?
- Kim Bauer: You know, Salazar and the terrorist threat
- Jack Bauer: Yeah. I know we're going to get it under control: we just have a lot of work to do
- Kim Bauer: Listen, can I talk to you now?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah, sure come on in. What's going on?
- Kim Bauer: After all we've been through, I find it very difficult to keep things from you
- Jack Bauer: Ok. What's up?
- Kim Bauer: Chase and I have been going out for a while and it's starting to get serious
- Jack Bauer: Wow
- Kim Bauer: I think he wanted to be the one to tell you but he was worried it would cause a problem between you two
- Jack Bauer: I see, how long have the two of you been seeing each other?
- Kim Bauer: Three months, I really care for him dad. What'd you think?
- Jack Bauer: [Smiles] I don't know what I think. I'm really surprised, I'm sorry I'm distracted with everything that's going on today
- Kim Bauer: I just had to let you know
- Jack Bauer: I'm glad you told me, I am
- Kim Bauer: [Kisses him on the head before leaving] ok
- Jack Bauer: I love you
- Tim: I'm not going to do it ok? I don't care how much you pay me: it's dealing drugs
- Kyle Singer: Your my best friend, when are you going to come through for me?
- Tim: You should've talked to me before you went down to Mexico to buy a bag of coke
- Kyle Singer: I'm not asking you to do anything but wait in the car. I'll make the delivery
- Tim: I'm not going to do it. I'm not going with you
- Kyle Singer: Fine
- Kyle Singer: [Answering his phone] yeah? Zack, what's up?
- Zach Parker: We need to talk
- Kyle Singer: What's going on?
- Zach Parker: You tell me, you got the powder?
- Kyle Singer: Yeah. Of course I do, what time do you want me to drop it off?
- Zach Parker: Tonight. Come by around seven thirty
- Kyle Singer: Seven thirty, could we just go over one more time how this whole thing is going to go down?
- Zach Parker: Go over what? You drop off the coke, I give you the money. Is that too much for you to handle?
- Kyle Singer: No, it's cool, totally cool man
- Zach Parker: [Before hanging up] it better be
- Dr. Sunny Macer: [Over the phone] I think I got something that maybe helpful to you guys
- Michelle Dessler: What's that?
- Dr. Sunny Macer: The pathology found something odd on Goss's system. We found an un-metabolized virus particle. I'll skip the technical babble: bottom line looks like the virus was delivered in a crystalline form. Maybe what you're looking for is a white powder?
- Michelle Dessler: So it would look like a bag or cocaine or heroin?
- Dr. Sunny Macer: That may even be the strategy, someone thinks their selling a bag of coke, in fact their handling the virus
- President David Palmer: [Talking privately] and what did CTU have to say?
- Wayne Palmer: That it could be a very dangerous situation. Almeida sent me a breakdown of what could happen if this virus is released and it's not good
- President David Palmer: Give CTU carte blanche. Whatever they need, make sure they get it
- Wayne Palmer: I did
- President David Palmer: We should cancel the debate
- Wayne Palmer: What?
- President David Palmer: It's a mistake to continue prepping for tonight while there's an imminent bio terrorist threat against this country
- Wayne Palmer: First of all, "we" don't know if it's imminent and you know just as well as I do that we get threats every day
- President David Palmer: Not like this one. They said the body was infected with a weaponized virus
- Wayne Palmer: Ok let's say you're right: what do you really think you can do when you put your full attention on it?
- President David Palmer: I just want to make sure that you're not advising me out of fear that my image will suffer if we cancel
- Wayne Palmer: Oh, no it will suffer but I still think the best thing to do is to proceed as planned and respond when we have more information
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] yeah?
- Michelle Dessler: We got a last known address on David Goss: the infected body that was dropped off at Health Services?
- Jack Bauer: How recent?
- Michelle Dessler: Two months
- Jack Bauer: Ok have LAPD send over a perimeter team. Tell them "hands off" until Chase and I get there
- Michelle Dessler: [Before they both hang up] Got it
- Chase Edmunds: I'm sorry you don't think I'm not good enough for your daughter: but I can't help the way I feel
- Jack Bauer: Why do you think I put Kim at CTU? Behind a desk? Working a computer? So I can keep an eye on her. Make sure she's safe, not so she can start dating some "field agent"
- Chase Edmunds: You're talking about her like she's twelve years old, she's a grown woman
- Jack Bauer: Damn it, you've seen what this job can do to you. You've seen what it's done to me, it's ruined every relationship I ever had
- Chase Edmunds: That's you
- Jack Bauer: [Raises his voice] no! It's the job
- Chase Edmunds: I don't think so
- Jack Bauer: You don't think so. What the hell do you know? My wife died because of this job. I almost lost Kim too. I'm not going to let that happen again. I will do everything I can to protect her, do you understand me? Everything! You cannot have a normal life and do this job at the same time
- Chase Edmunds: You're saying I shouldn't have a relationship with anyone?
- Jack Bauer: It's exactly what I'm saying, especially with my daughter
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] what's up?
- Luis Annicon: You tell me. I tried to move Salazar back to solitary but there's a lock out from Division, what's that all about?
- Jack Bauer: I can't tell you right now
- Luis Annicon: The bastard murdered his lawyer right in front of us: what the hell is Division doing protecting him?
- Jack Bauer: They're not protecting him
- Luis Annicon: Then what?
- Jack Bauer: I can't get into it with you right now
- Luis Annicon: Can't get into it? You're not the only who gave up a chunk of his life to put this guy away. I need to be in the loop
- Jack Bauer: This information doesn't go anywhere after you hang up the phone
- Luis Annicon: What?
- Jack Bauer: Salazar might walk
- Luis Annicon: Walk? What're you talking about?
- Jack Bauer: Look, I don't think it's going to get to that. Someone on the outside has got a lot of leverage
- Luis Annicon: Who?
- Jack Bauer: I think it's his brother Hector
- Luis Annicon: I don't believe this
- Jack Bauer: Just hang tight, I'll back to you as soon as I can
- Luis Annicon: No, I haven't found you a new lawyer, how about a new execution date?
- Ramon Salazar: Someone's not happy
- Luis Annicon: What'd you know Ramon?
- Ramon Salazar: About?
- Luis Annicon: Talk to me
- Ramon Salazar: Talk to you about what?
- Luis Annicon: What is your slime ball brother trying to do?
- Luis Annicon: Hector? Have you talked to him? How is he? His birthday's coming up next week. I don't even know what to get him
- Ramon Salazar: You keep talking trash man. You're not going anywhere
- Ramon Salazar: Maybe not. But let assure you one thing: if I am unexpectedly allowed to go free, I have no doubt you'll come looking for me. Especially after the death of your wife Elise
- President David Palmer: So, what's the latest?
- Wayne Palmer: Nothing yet. CTU's working their leads. Trying to figure out who dropped off the dead body
- President David Palmer: So we still don't know who's behind this threat?
- Wayne Palmer: No, they're still speculating its Salazar's brother, Hector. What they don't know if it's a bluff, staged to release Salazar
- President David Palmer: How can it be a bluff? The virus has been confirmed
- Wayne Palmer: Yes but dropping off a dead body is one thing: being able to infect an entire city? That's something entirely different
- President David Palmer: Alright, I guess we'll know soon enough
- President David Palmer: [Before Wayne walks away] so you spoke earlier about an "opportunity"?
- Wayne Palmer: Yeah, I'm not sure that's something we need to discuss right now
- President David Palmer: Which means whatever it is fell through, or you know I'm not going to like it so you're proceeding without me
- Wayne Palmer: No, that's not it. I just think because of this threat, I just don't want to divert your attention
- President David Palmer: I can "walk and chew gum" at the same time. What is it?
- Wayne Palmer: Keeler's play book, what if I can get us a copy?
- President David Palmer: What exactly do you mean by "play book"?
- Wayne Palmer: His entire prep for tonight's debate. How his going to answer the questions, what issues his going to try to trip you on, everything
- President David Palmer: And how would we get it?
- Wayne Palmer: You don't need to know the details
- President David Palmer: I'm surprised
- Wayne Palmer: About what?
- President David Palmer: The question. You know there is no way on earth, I'd agree to this
- Wayne Palmer: I am not talking about pull a "Sherry" and stealing it, now it may just drop in our lap, why shouldn't we look at it?
- President David Palmer: You are not in the private sector anymore, you have to get used to how my Administration works
- Wayne Palmer: And I am just trying to give your Administration four more years
- Wayne Palmer: [after David gives him a stern look, implying he doesn't want to win by cheating] ok, if that's how you want it
- President David Palmer: That's how I want it
- Michelle Dessler: [while in the bathroom] you all caught up?
- Kim Bauer: Pretty much. I just have to refresh the data on my dad's panel. Can I ask you a question you and Tony?
- Michelle Dessler: Me and Tony what?
- Kim Bauer: I don't know. I was wondering if it's a "problem" working with your husband in the same office?
- Michelle Dessler: No: it's not a problem, why do you ask?
- Kim Bauer: It's not a big deal
- Michelle Dessler: No it's ok, we have a minute
- Kim Bauer: Well, I've been dating Chase and I don't think my dad's too happy about it
- Michelle Dessler: I see, I'm sure your dad is just trying to protect you but ultimately, it's just between you and Chase
- Kim Bauer: Yeah I know
- Michelle Dessler: [Before leaving] let me know when you finish those panels ok?
- Tony Almeida: Analysis just called: they determined if Hector Salazar is orchestrating this bio threat, it's probably operating out of northern Mexico: so we're going to need a list of his properties down there
- Michelle Dessler: Chloe's working on that. She's going through the brief files Jack turned in after the bust
- Tony Almeida: Alright. I'll talk to her, also fire up all our contacts down there in case Hector was stupid enough to show his face in the last couple days alright?
- Chloe O'Brian: [Over the phone] I just got off the phone with Jack: they just arrived
- Tony Almeida: Alright, is there a problem?
- Chloe O'Brian: Jack's not going to use the transmitters
- Tony Almeida: Why not?
- Chloe O'Brian: He said it would take too long to wire them up
- Tony Almeida: Whatever. Look, your running point from his side, any information he digs up, I want it right away you got it?
- Chloe O'Brian: [Sarcastically] uh, ok you don't have to yell
- Tony Almeida: No one's yelling. Look, we got a body infected with a deadly virus. Somehow we have to tie it to Salazar in the next three hours. Right now Jack's location is our only lead, so I need you to keep me up to the minute, understood?
- Chloe O'Brian: I already said ok
- Tony Almeida: Good, then get on it
- Helen Singer: [after he hands her an envelope] what is this?
- Don: Its final notice: you don't pay the rent tomorrow 8am, I'm calling City Services and they start the eviction process
- Helen Singer: No, don't do this. We'll have it in a couple of days
- Kyle Singer: [after he watched them through his window] how much do we owe him ma?
- Helen Singer: Just stay out of this
- Kyle Singer: How much?
- Helen Singer: Eighteen hundred dollars and don't you worry about it because your father's going to talk to Uncle Sanford
- Zach Parker: I'm clean, you got nothing on me
- Jack Bauer: Shut up stupid: you just fired at a federal agent. You better start talking to me or I will let you bleed to death on this landing. Who is David Goss?
- Zach Parker: Goss is a dealer. I "score" for him sometimes
- Jack Bauer: Well, not anymore. His dead
- Zach Parker: Ok his dead
- Jack Bauer: Don't be a smart ass, who is his supplier?
- Jack Bauer: [Implying to him to step onto Parker's gunshot wound to inflict pain to extract information] Chase
- Zach Parker: [while yelling in pain] a guy named Carlos Claretha. He works out of Tijuana
- Jack Bauer: [to Chase] Claretha is one of Salazar's midlevel distributors
- Chase Edmunds: You doing business with him?
- Zach Parker: I'm supposed to call him tonight. Claretha wanted me to find a "mule", someone clean without a record
- Jack Bauer: What for?
- Zach Parker: He wanted to move a small bag of coke across the border, it didn't make any sense to me
- Jack Bauer: Why not?
- Zach Parker: He paid ten grand to bring it up. Coke isn't even worth that much
- Jack Bauer: Where's the bag of coke now?
- Zach Parker: The guy who brought it across still has it
- Jack Bauer: What's his name?
- Zach Parker: His name's Kyle, Kyle Singer
- President David Palmer: I'm having your security level upgraded. I'm going to need your advice today
- Dr. Anne Packard: What's going on?
- President David Palmer: What do you know about type three pneumonic viruses?
- Dr. Anne Packard: Not a lot: their fairly new. As far as I know there are several strains, most of them are fast acting and all of them are deadly
- President David Palmer: Someone's threatening to release a virus here in LA
- Dr. Anne Packard: Oh God
- President David Palmer: I need you to talk to a Dr. Sunny Macer at National Health Services
- Dr. Anne Packard: Yes I know Sunny but if you think there's a remote possibility that this thing is for real, you need to get out of Los Angeles
- President David Palmer: That's not possible, the debate is in a little over two hours
- Dr. Anne Packard: No, don't tell me about the debate, we're talking about an outbreak here in the city. This isn't something Secret Service can protect you against
- President David Palmer: I know, we are prepared to leave if the situation warrants it. But right now I need you to talk to Dr. Sunny Macer and learn everything you can about this thing
- Tony Almeida: [Briefing the CTU staff] everyone should be working up the name Kyle Singer alright? I want point sheets from the department heads in the next five minutes: everything there is to know on Kyle Singer, I want it. Where he lives, where he works, and most importantly where is he likely to be right now. Also, keep an open channel to Field Ops so Chloe could forward anything that comes in to Jack, alright? Let's go
- Jack Bauer: I need you to take Parker down to CTU
- Chase Edmunds: What about Kyle Singer?
- Jack Bauer: I'll take care of Singer. I want you to take care of Parker
- Chase Edmunds: Anybody can take him back to CTU and set him up. I'm going with you to get Singer
- Jack Bauer: No you're not
- Chase Edmunds: Why are you trying to get rid of me?
- Jack Bauer: I'm not trying to get rid of you. I still think Parker has more information and I want you to get it out of him
- Chase Edmunds: Is this about Kim? Are you punishing me for dating your daughter?
- Jack Bauer: Listen to me: if that kid is walking around with a bag a cocaine that's got the virus in it, and he doesn't know it? I need to find him and stop him from putting it into circulation
- Chase Edmunds: Yeah I know, that's why I want to help
- Jack Bauer: You can't, it's too dangerous
- Chase Edmunds: Too dangerous?
- Jack Bauer: You can't have it both ways. My daughter loves you, you want to be with her? Then I have to stop putting you in harm's way
- Chase Edmunds: You're kidding right?
- Jack Bauer: Take Parker to CTU, that's an order
- President David Palmer: [Meeting privately] what is it?
- Wayne Palmer: [Sliding it across the table] don't be angry but I got a copy of Keeler's playbook
- President David Palmer: Damn it, I told you to drop that
- Wayne Palmer: Will you just listen to me? If you don't want to use it then don't but there is something you need to see
- President David Palmer: There's nothing I need to see
- Wayne Palmer: It's about Anne
- President David Palmer: Keeler is too smart to play the race card or the girlfriend card
- Wayne Palmer: It's neither one of those: which is why I'm bringing this to you. It's something we didn't know about her. Something if it's true, it could damage all of us. Just take a look at it
