• Officer Jim Reed : [in seeing a car stopping carelessly half way into the intersection]  Stretching it a bit.

  Officer Pete Malloy : Yeah, quite a bit.

  Winnie Goodrich : [cutting to the offending vehicle, with the female passenger speaking angrily to the driver]  Ira! That was a stop sign back there!

  Ira Goodrich : [his head rocking back and forth in listening to his wife]  I know, dear.

  Winnie Goodrich : Then what are we doing here?

  Ira Goodrich : Stopping! A little bit late, but we're stopping.

  [the female passenger points to Malloy and Reed in their police cruiser on the far side of the intersection, while the driver nods knowingly, smiles, then continues driving, swerving in traffic before pulling over, Adam-12, with lights on, pulling up behind them] 

  Officer Pete Malloy : [in approaching the driver's side and addressing the driver through the window]  May I see your license, please?

  Ira Goodrich : [in a slurred speech as he sticks his head out the window to address Malloy]  Certainly, officer!

  [Malloy grimaces and pulls his head away on smelling alcohol on the driver's breath] 

  Ira Goodrich : [still with slurred speech while feeling his chin in addressing Malloy's reaction]  I don't blame you, officer. I hate this shaving lotion, too, but it was a gift from the little woman.

  Officer Pete Malloy : Your license?

  [after fumbling around, the driver takes a wallet out of his pocket and hands it to Malloy] 

  Officer Pete Malloy : Would you take it out of the wallet?

  [the driver takes what he believes is his driver's license out of the wallet and hands it to Malloy] 

  Officer Pete Malloy : [reading the identification handed to him]  "Ira M. Goodrich." This proves you're a member in good standing of the zoo association.
