Mr. Grace and Mr. Rumbold try to instill a sense of fire safety in the staff at Grace Brothers, but with the hilarity of a foreign customer, a kiss-of-life medical dummy and Mrs. Slocombe stuck in a fabric tube, it's impossible.

After the disastrous surprise fire drill, a crash fire safety course has been ordered on the staff. The staff are taught everything from how to rescue a fainted victim as well as how to find a smoked out exit. Then in order to practice mouth to mouth resuscitation, a practice dummy is brought in for all the staff.—Nadia Nassar

It takes all Peacock's oriental war experience and joint ingenuity, mainly from eunuch-like-tolerable Humphries, to serve the emir of Sidi Ben Dharbi who buys trousers for his harem, which may not be touched, and proposes various forms of barter. Rumbold's repeated false fire alert cries precede the actual fire drill, which is so unsatisfactory that Harman is charged with training all staff, who bicker over kissing a dummy and wrestle with practicalities such as a fabric rescue tube, until the firemen arrive on a real incendiary emergency and literally carry the day.—KGF Vissers
