Mild-mannered traveling salesman Leo Sunshine (a fine and engaging performance by Henry Winkler) stumbles across a dead body. Sunshine soon discovers that the man was on his way to take a job as a marshal in a wild frontier town and decides to assume the deceased man's identity because he desperately needs the money.
Director Starla Gunnarsson relates the clever and engrossing story at a constant pace, maintains an amiable tone throughout, and offers a tasty and vivid evocation of the Old West period setting. Moreover, Sunshine makes for a likeable hard-luck protagonist whose gentle soft-spoken demeanor proves to be surprisingly effective at keeping the peace. The sound acting by the capable cast helps a lot: Susan Hogan as sweet saloon gal Angela, Jay Brazeau as timid Mayor William Dodson, Colin Cunningham as the corrupt Deputy Floyd, Ian Tracy as the vengeful Wild Man Tate, and Dave 'Squatch' Ward as the brutish Joe Bob Willis. Spot-on satisfying happy ending, too. A really nice show.
