  • Season 3 Episode 20- John Carradine makes his third and final appearance as the blind Reverend Serenity Johnson, journeying from Lordsburg to Arizona City to collect a debt from an old partner of his, Jennie Malone (Rhonda Fleming), who runs the local saloon. She needs him to transport a cache of stolen silver to San Francisco, hoping to avoid the sheriff, the marshal, and Bix Courtney (Timothy Carey), the vicious outlaw who already murdered the original thief. Caine himself is hardly in the episode, especially after a falling out with Serenity, due to the old man's duplicity at pretending to be at death's door. Pat Morita, then playing Arnold on the popular HAPPY DAYS, does a serious turn as Arthur Chen, Jennie's cashier and partner in the saloon, who shows Caine a poster from San Francisco depicting Danny Caine, his long lost brother (to be continued in the following entry "Barbary House"). Interestingly, Lordsburg was a town mentioned in two of John Carradine's 1939 Westerns, "Frontier Marshal" and John Ford's immortal "Stagecoach," the film that made a star of John Wayne. John and David Carradine would appear together twice more, in "The Best of Sex and Violence" (1981, also with Keith), a video compilation of trailers, and a 1984 episode of THE FALL GUY, "October the 31st," featuring John, David, Keith, and Robert (supposedly John's role in 1980's "The Long Riders" failed to make the final cut, while a 1979 family documentary remains unreleased). Next up- "Barbary House"

This is a very weak episode. The script is poor quality , with John Carradine making yet another unwelcome appearance as Serenity ( the church is in financial trouble - yet again) ; One episode would've been more than enough.

It is a boring ponderous effort , not worth your time.

Caine seems to be a secondary character here , & is hardly in the episode.

5 episodes in the whole series , I found unwatchable , including this one , which is perhaps the least worst of them.

The others being the final 3 episodes of season 2 , & the episode before this one. Which is an out of place dream type excursion .
