  • This is another of those episodes where the plot and the gags are stretched so thin that everything just drags on and on.

At least there is some continuity established here as the script makes reference to the volunteer firefighters' theatre group, barbershop quartet and baseball team, which were all featured in previous episodes.

Alan Hale appears as the Fire Chief in the training scene and he is basically the Skipper to Lucy's Gilligan. The hat makes him look like a formally attired version of the Skipper. The jokes in this scene are delivered by Mary Wickes and Mary Jane Croft but just make the ladies come off as ditzy housewives.

Actually, the funniest thing about this one is the final scene in the bank where Lucy says she doesn't smoke and pretends to hate cigarettes. Everyone knows she was a human chimney in real life!

This one's all bombast and little substance.
