Alan Alda has gone on record in several interviews that this was his least favorite episode. Most of the cast and crew absolutely hated this episode (including Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson and Larry Linville) due to it being a plot mandated by the television executives who most of the crew felt had no real knowledge or insight into the behavior of the characters which is frequently out of place in this episode (Hawkeye and Trapper wanting to find a way to keep Frank around for instance).
This was the last episode to feature the "jazzier" version of the opening theme. However that bit would be used again accompanying the closing cast and character introduction scene in the season 2 premiere episode "Divided We Stand"
