  • Herman the basketball star? Yup, just by showing up at Marilyn's college he winds up being mistaken for some hotshot new recruit. The coach knows the kid is some backwards-but very talented tall dude from the mountains named "Moose Mallory." When Herman winds up asking the coach for directions, he and his assistant think it must be Moose. (They didn't recognize that face? Coaches do the recruiting but I guess the writer's didn't know that.)

Anyway, it's one of those "screwball comedies" of mistaken identity and does provide a lot of laughs even if it makes no sense. It fun once again to see Robert Easton and Pat Buttram play the real Moose and his 'paw," respectively. They were two actors who were classics in playing hillbilly-type guys.

Memorable lines and-or scenes in the episode:

"Marilyn is up in her room, crying her eyes out." -- Lilly.

"Oh, dear, I remember doing that as a kid and having a terrible time putting them back in" - Herman.

"Nobody's ever been tossed out of school in our family history except when they caught hanging upside down at Vassar."

"When this coach feller throwed us out and we read that you had latched on to Moose's scholarship, we just come over here to marinate your gizzard in sheep-dip! - Pa Mallory.

"Uh, uh, good heavens,. I'd hate to put you to all that trouble. - Herman.

"I declare, Ma'am, you are prettier than a bucket full of hog livers. - Moose (speaking to Marilyn).
