The version of the Fred Steiner series theme music (played over the opening and closing credits) was decidedly different for the first season than the more familiar arrangement from later years. Featuring a driving drum track as the backbeat and insistent horns and strings, it has more of a "pit band" sound than the more lush, symphonic arrangement Perry Mason fans are used to hearing.
The early episodes of the TV series were very much like the radio series and the movies from the 1930s in that conversations are more dramatic, Perry is generally tougher on his clients, and he walks a fine line on legal ethics and the law (such as firing a gun identical to his client's at the murder scene in order to confuse matters). Beginning with the third or fourth season the series had a mellower tone and Perry took fewer liberties with ethics and the law.
One of the few instances where Lt. Tragg banged on the door to Mason's office while Mason was talking with his client. In later episodes, Tragg would usually just walk in and interrupt Mason's conversation with his client.
One of the few times we see Perry's apartment.
Lt Tragg is the only policeman to sit beside Hamilton Burger during the trials. The other detectives (if in court) sit in the gallery.
