Detective Royce (Jackie Cooper) is at the age when he could retire from the force. But he loves his job and cannot bring himself to quit. At the same time, he works a second job as an insurance investigator, with the department's permission, and can barely make ends meet. Now his second job wants him to work for them full time...and Royce can't bring himself to change the way things are. But at the same time, his partner is even older and soon has a heart attack....and it makes Royce think.
This is interesting in that the director of the episode is Tony Lo Bianco...a fine actor who appeared in seven episodes himself. And, this is the third of four appearances by Cooper.
So is it any good? Yes, but not great. Much of it is because it wasn't 100% clear what the purpose of the episode was...apart from how grossly underpaid cops can be. But still, it is interesting and worth seeing.
