A well-respected businessman is sometimes controlled by his murder and mayhem-loving alter ego.
Mr. Brooks' response as to why he he owns a cemetery is that it's wise to invest in things that people will always need, such as as cemeteries and water. The latter is perhaps a reference to another Costner movie, Waterworld.
Mr. Earl Brooks:
Oh God... God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
Marshall: Why do you fight it so hard, Earl?
The amount and placement of the displaced earth surrounding the newly dug, empty grave in the cemetery changes between shots.
A thumbprint forms the backdrop for the end credits.
