“All my friends have worked with the Muppets. Everybody I know has done a thing with the Muppets and I always felt a little bit left out,” Michael Caine told Et in 1992 on the set of The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. “But they only did half-hour television shows and I got to do a two-hour movie, so it's great.”

While Caine donned the trademark robes and night cap to portray Ebenezer Scrooge, the reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic also featured Kermit as Bob Cratchit, Fozzie as Mr. Fozziewig (modified from Fezziwig), Miss Piggy as Mrs. Cratchit and Gonzo as Dickens, who hilariously narrates the story with Rizzo the Rat. Despite the recognizable names and faces, some voices of the characters would sound a little different to Muppet fans.

Kermit the Frog will be sounding a little bit different moving forward.

Puppeteer Steve Whitmire, who has performed as Kermit for 27 years, will no longer be voicing the famous amphibian in various Muppets TV programs and films, a spokesperson for The Muppets Studio confirmed to NPR on Tuesday. Longtime show veteran Matt Vogel will take his place.

Whitmire first joined the Muppets in 1978, and voiced Kermit since the death of show creator Jim Henson in 1990. He has also played Ernie, Rizzo the Rat and Beaker, among other characters.

Thoughout his career, Whitmire has also voiced Sesame Street's Big Bird and Count von Count.

Nathan Fillion's detective series Castle will end next Monday, with the season 8 finale wrapping up the show for good...

Castle has been cancelled by ABC, serving as another casualty in this day of somewhat soul-destroying TV news. We’d known for a while that Stana Katic was set to depart the show after season 8, but the assumption was that Nathan Fillion’s Rick Castle would carry on without her. Those assumptions, it turns out, were wrong.

Castle has been running since 2009 and has a fairly fervent fan base. Among us geeks, the show’s nods towards Mr Fillion’s Firefly days were always very welcome.

Castle’s creator and original showrunner Andrew Marlowe has taken to Twitter, thanking everybody involved in making and supporting the series...

Michael Socha, who played the Knave Of Hearts aka Will Scarlet first on spin-off Once Upon A Time In Wonderland and later on the main show, says there's still a chance his character may return to Storybrooke. "They didn’t kill me," he said. "I get on really well with the writers, Eddie and Adam [Kitsis and Horowitz]."

If he was to return to Once though, Socha told us he'd need "a guarantee though that I’m going to be doing something worthwhile. I don’t want to be doing a job where I’m not doing a job, just sitting around in my flat just bored".

Just one month after a new Muppets TV show was announced, ABC has officially given a series order for the currently-untitled program. The new series, which is rumored to take place behind-the-scenes of a Muppets Late Night talk show, will be a documentary-style comedy, in the same vein as The Office, that explores the personal and professional lives of The Muppets. After a successful return to the big screen with 2011's The Muppets and last year's sequel Muppets Most Wanted, The Muppets are returning to the small screen with a new TV series from The Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady and Anger Management writer-producer Bob Kushell. ABC has ordered a comedy pilot presentation for the new Muppets TV series, which Deadline reports will be set behind-the-scenes of a late-night talk show. Both Bill Prady and Bob Kushell will executive produce, with Bob Kushell serving as showrunner, should it get picked up to series.

Disney-owned The Muppets Studios is co-producing with ABC Studios. Disney bought the Muppets character rights back in 2004, but this is the first we've heard of a new Muppets TV series. Muppets Most Wanted disappointed at the box office - so where does that leave plans for another Muppets movie?

Nicholas Stoller's latest film, Bad Neighbours (known as Neighbors in most of the rest of the world) has proven to be the first surprise smash hit of the summer. Starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, the movie opened to nearly $50m of business last weekend in the Us alone.

Stoller directed that one, but he's also been the man who's co-written the last two Muppets films, including the recent Muppets Most Wanted. The latter hasn't enjoyed such box office success sadly, with the film taking a disappointing $70m worldwide. Hurt by competition from the likes of Rio 2 and Mr Peabody And Sherman, the film's take is a long way shy of the $165m grossed by The Muppets two years earlier.

While everyone knows The Muppets for their numerous theatrical successes, Jim Henson’s loveable creations also had many excellent outings on the small screen as well. Hosting their own type of variety hour, The Muppet Show really started the world’s love for Kermit and his gang, but a new generation of fans who only have films like the recent Muppets Most Wanted are missing out on a whole section of Muppets history. Thankfully though, that might be changing.

Many people know filmmaker Nicholas Stoller for his directorial work on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek, and the uproarious frat comedy Neighbors (which you shouldn’t miss). What you may not know is that Stoller also co-wrote both recent Muppet movies. While in New York City today to promote Neighbors, I sat down with the Stoller and decided to see if there were any future plans for Jim Henson’s franchise.

The Muppets, depending on where you live, are about to return or have returned to the big screen, with that wonderful new blockbuster paradigm of a movie that is both a reboot and sequel (or prequel) at the same time.

Simply titled The Muppets, the movie stars and is co-written by Judd Apatow regular, Jason Segel. The original songs are written by one half of Flight Of The Conchords, Brett McKenzie. The traditional Muppet movie roster of celebrity cameos includes the likes of Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis and Neil Patrick Harris.

So: are the Muppets getting a little edgier this time around? If you look at the history of the Muppets, not really.
