Prom Night (2008)

FAQ

Prom Night

FAQ

Prom Night is a "remake" of Prom Night (1980) (1980), although director Nelson McCormick admits that the only similarity between the two movies is the title. The original Prom Night was based on a screenplay written by William Gray and Robert Guza, Jr. This version of Prom Night was written by J.S. Cardone.

Detective Nash (James Ransone) was murdered by Richard Fenton (Johnathon Schaech) at the Keppell's home before Detective Winn (Idris Elba could arrive at the scene.

No, Crissy (Brianne Davis) does not win. Lisa Hines (Dana Davis) and Ronnie Keflin (Collins Pennie) are voted the prom king and queen.

The show that Donna is watching towards the end of the film is Can't Hardly Wait (1998).

Thirteen (13) people fall victim to Fenton. They are: (1,2,3) Donna's parents and younger brother (all knife wounds); (4) Mental Institution Inmate (slashed across the neck with a knife); (5) Howard K. Ramsey (his death is not shown, but his body is discovered later); (6) Simms (his death is not shown, but his body is discovered later); (7) Maid (she is stabbed with a knife, numerous times, in the chest); (8) Police Officer (his death is not shown, but his body is discovered later); (9) Michael Camp (he is stabbed with a knife, numerous times, in the chest and stomach); (10) Claire (she is stabbed with a knife, numerous times, in the chest); (11) Lisa Hines (she is slashed across the neck with a knife); (12) Detective Nash (he is slashed across the neck with a knife); and (13) Bobby (he is slashed across the neck with a knife, although his death is not shown). At the end of the film, Richard Fenton himself is shot numerous times in the chest and stomach by Detective Winn at the Keppel residence. Fenton is killed on scene.

On the day of its US release (April 11th, 2008), Prom Night had a rating of 5.4.

For release in theatres Prom Night—the more or less remake of the original Prom Night (1980) from 1980—it got a PG-13 rating. On home video release (e.g. DVD), an Unrated version of this movie was published as well but the differences between both versions are very little. The Unrated versions runs approximately 85 seconds longer and features some more violent scenes that aren't that hard for a horror movie. Nevertheless a detailed comparison between both versions is available here.
