Summaries

  • The episode opens in Chelsea, NYC, at the Outmusic Video Showcase. This event, held at popular NYC hotspot XES Lounge, was an exhibition of those LGBT music videos that were nominated by the Outmusic organization for their creative excellence. Correspondents Tony Sawicki and Athena Reich check out clips from the videos while speaking with the artists themselves -- Gay hip hop performer Caswell, Broadway's Kevin Cahoon, girl band Triple Crème, and solo recording artist Cheryl Hill. Next, Tony Sawicki attends the Bingham Cup, an international competition of Gay Rugby football teams. Named after Mark Bingham, a Gay rugby player from San Francisco who died a hero during the 9/11 terror attacks, the Bingham Cup was held this year at Randall's Island Field in New York. Tony interviews Rugby players from Australia, the Netherlands, Wales, England, Ireland, Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, and Oregon, and discusses Rugby as a sport that is becoming increasingly popular among Gay people. The clip features copious "on the field" action that proves just how rough and tumble (and hot!) the Gay Ruggers can be! Then, Tony Sawicki, Stephanie Butler and Clover Honey visit New York's Museum of Sex, an institution devoted to the history and cultural significance of Human Sexuality. Our cast members attend the opening reception of an exhibit entitled "Men Without Suits," which focused on how the Male body has been eroticized in art through the ages. They also have fun browsing through the toys and gadgets at the museum's rather unconventional gift shop. Next, the Man on the Street Correspondent Clover Honey attends the Greenwich Village Street Fair in NYC (which attracts a very diverse audience) and asks the question: "What are the biggest challenges facing Gay people today?" Clover is treated to surprising commentary by a wide range of respondents, including Jai Rodriguez of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The episode wraps at Club Eugene in Chelsea, NYC, where Tony Sawicki and Clover Honey attend a swank fundraising party held by Team NY, a coalition of LGBT sports teams. Our correspondents spoke with Rick Schmutzler, owner/manager of "GYM," a Gay sports bar in Chelsea, who was honored for his contributions to the Gay Sports community. We also chatted with hunky acrobatic performer Matthew Cusick, cabaret diva Shavonne Conroy, and Team NY Director Alan Anderson.—Anonymous
