Mysterious hooded figures break into the facility where the vampires are being created and kill every one of them. David and his team are suspected by the Red Shield to be in on the betrayal and are put in mandatory quarantine.

At his research facility in Paris, Arjano is preparing for a trip to Iceland. First, however, there is the problem of disposing of the "mice" that didn't work for Phase 2 experimentation. Suddenly, the building is broken into by two cloaked Schiff. They start killing Chiropterrans. One of the Schiff bites into a Chiropterran's neck then spits it out. "It has to be chevalier blood," he says. The two then fly away, breaking the skylights as they go.

David, Kai, Riku, Lewis, and Julia have landed on the ship that serves as Red Shield's HQ. They are immediately placed in isolation, where they will be held for 72 hours. Joel VI, current chief of Red Shield, informs them that Liza's body was found naked and drained of blood some 186 miles east of Ekaterinburg. She had been dead about 10 days, although she was reported in Ekaterinburg last week. The conclusion is that Liza was replaced during the train trip, and the only beings who can shapeshift into a human's form are chevaliers, which is the reason that the group has been placed in isolation -- to insure that the chevalier that killed Liza isn't one of them. As they wait, Kai gets David alone and asks him to tell him EVERYTHING about Saya. David informs Kai that, once he knows everything about Saya, he will have to promise to continue fighting against Chiropterrans and that he will not be allowed to return to his former life. After getting Kai's promise, David allows Kai to read Joel's diary, a record of all Red Shield activity since its formation in the early 1800s, including Saya's history.

Except for Carl, who is still missing, Diva's four surviving chevaliers -- Solomon, James, Nathan, and Amshel -- are preparing for a family meeting. Solomon, James, and Nathan have already arrived. Amshel is running late. Diva is also there, although she is still sleeping. When Amshel arrives, he is still in Liza's form. After greeting the sleeping Diva, he takes his own form and joins his brothers. Amshel tells his brothers about his encounter with Saya and Haji in Russia. When asked why he didn't kill them, Amshel says that he wants no excess bloodshed because killing to get their way would make them no better than humans. He informs them that he has invited Haji and Saya to The Zoo and makes them promise that, once they get Saya there, she will be eliminated. Solomon promises but, after leaving the meeting, he retracts that promise.

As he is walking along the Seine, Solomon is attacked by two Schiff, eager to drink his chevalier blood. Solomon's arm turns into a sword, and he is easily able to dispatch them, although they do manage to cut off his right arm, which Solomon simply reattaches. Solomon calls Arjano to pick up and dispense with the bodies, then concludes that he is going to see Saya himself.

Saya and Haji are hitching a ride in the back of a farmer's pig truck. They are headed for The Zoo. Saya hopes that she can find answers there as to how it is that she is a Chiropterran and what is a Chiropterran anyway? Haji refuses to give her the answers, telling her that she must remember them herself, but he assures her that she is different. Haji's concern right now is that Saya eat so as to keep up her strength.
