Chapter Nineteen '.07%'

Heroes

Edit
  • Peter Petrelli: It's a good thing I can't die, then.
  • Nathan Petrelli: What?
  • Peter Petrelli: Oh, I got that from Claire. She can regenerate.
  • Nathan Petrelli: No matter what happens?
  • Peter Petrelli: I think so.
  • Nathan Petrelli: What about the painting? If you explode, I mean if that happens, you could survive it?
  • Peter Petrelli: Doesn't really matter, does it? I mean, if I go nuclear, if I blow up New York, you know how many people are gonna die?
  • Nathan Petrelli: Point O seven per cent.
  • Peter Petrelli: Talk to her, Nathan. She wants to know her father.
  • Nathan Petrelli: I can't deal with that right now.
  • Peter Petrelli: She's not just some girl, she's your daughter. You know that Mom wants to send her to Paris? You can't let her go. Don't you get it? Claire's the girl I saved in Texas, save the cheerleader...
  • Nathan Petrelli: ...Save the world, I get it.
  • Peter Petrelli: And she turns out to be your daughter. Your daughter. Look around. Everything I said is happening is happening now. It's real. And maybe if Claire is here, I don't blow up. Maybe she's here to save us. Talk to her, Nathan. We need her.
  • [Angela Petrelli walks in]
  • Peter Petrelli: About what just happened, Nathan and I need to talk to you.
  • Angela Petrelli: It's okay, I know. I knew long before either of you did.
  • Isaac Mendez: [to Sylar] It's all right. I finally know my part in all this - to die, here, with you - but not before I show them how to kill you and stop the bomb. I finally get to be a hero.
  • Mr. Linderman: [to Nathan, re half of New York being decimated] There's six and a half billion people on this planet. That's less than point zero seven per cent. Come on, that's an acceptable loss by anyone's account.
  • Mr. Linderman: Look, I said people needed hope, but they trust fear.
  • Nathan Petrelli: This is crazy.
  • Mr. Linderman: This tragedy will be a catalyst for good, for change. Out of the ashes humanity will find a common goal, a united sense of hope - couched in a united sense of fear.
  • Peter Petrelli: You saved my life.
  • Claire Bennet: Guess we're even now.
  • Isaac Mendez: You're late.
  • Sylar: I guess you know why I'm here.
  • Isaac Mendez: You're the one who's gonna kill me.
  • Sylar: That's true.
  • [pause]
  • Sylar: This is usually the part when people start screaming.
  • Isaac Mendez: I tried fighting the future. It's too big for me. Maybe you can do better.
  • Nathan Petrelli: [Nathan sees Hiro in one of Isaac's paintings] I know this man.
  • Mr. Linderman: Oh, great. If you see him again tell him I want my sword back.
  • Nathan Petrelli: He said he needed it to save the world. A lot of people seem to be saying that these days.
  • [Nathan's uncovering his latest painting as Claire knocks on the door]
  • Claire Bennet: Your mom said you wanted to talk to me?
  • Nathan Petrelli: I did, I do. Come in. Please. This should've happened a long time ago, under better circumstances. It shouldn't take someone nearly dying for the two of us to finally meet.
  • Claire Bennet: You know, you don't have to this. Pretend to be nice to me.
  • Nathan Petrelli: I'm not pretending. Claire, most people think the worst of me and I've probably given them a good reason to, but I want to do better. I want to be there for you.
  • [pauses]
  • Nathan Petrelli: But I can't. Not now.
  • Claire Bennet: Of course.
  • Nathan Petrelli: I'm sorry, but there are things happening right now that I don't expect you to understand. I barely understand them myself. I went into politics for the chance to do something good, to have a chance to help. To be a part of something big. And in order to do that, I have to...
  • Claire Bennet: The election. Can't have some illegitimate daughter popping up right in front of the cameras.
  • Nathan Petrelli: I need to win.
  • Claire Bennet: You need me to leave. Paris with my grandmother.
  • Nathan Petrelli: She warms up. Sort of. It's just one week.
  • Claire Bennet: And then what?
  • Nathan Petrelli: And then you come home to your family. Okay?
  • [Claire and Nathan hug]
  • Sylar: I'm not finished with him yet.
  • [to Peter, as he turns invisible]
  • Sylar: Interesting, can't wait to try that one.
  • [Claire walks into the room while Nathan and Angela mourn Peter]
  • Nathan Petrelli: [voice breaking] Claire?
  • Claire Bennet: I know you don't want me here. I just want to see him. I came all this way.
  • [short pause]
  • Angela Petrelli: Let the girl have her moment.
  • [Nathan and Angela leave the room]
  • Claire Bennet: [to Peter's seemingly lifeless body] I didn't even get to know you... You're the only one who ever made me feel safe. I thought you were like me.
  • [Claire strokes Peter's head, eventually pulling the glass shard out of the back of his head; Peter coughs loudly]
  • Angela Petrelli: Peter?
  • Sylar: [to Issac] You really can paint the future. Just like the professor said. Fantastic.
  • Isaac Mendez: I wasted my life. Destroyed anything good that ever came to me. At least I did one good thing before I died. You can't fight the future.
  • Sylar: Neither can you.
  • Sylar: This is usually the part where people start screaming.
  • Claire Bennet: I've died before. It's no big deal.
  • Peter Petrelli: What do you do with something that killed you?
  • Nathan Petrelli: Put it under your pillow.
  • Angela Petrelli: I regret a lot of the choices I've made in my life. You're getting the benefit of my experience.
  • Claire Bennet: [snappily] Whether I want it or not.
  • Angela Petrelli: [Angela smirks]
  • [to Claire]
  • Angela Petrelli: You get that mouth from me.
  • Matt Parkman: Wait a minute - you didn't know that? You're trying to take down your organization, and you don't even know who signs your checks? Oh my god! You're middle management!
  • Nathan Petrelli: I don't know who I am without you.
  • Peter Petrelli: Course you do. You're Nathan Petrelli. Top of his class, valedictorian, most-likely-to. You're that guy with me or without me.
  • Nathan Petrelli: Who's to say I'm not all that because of you? Most of what we are is what people expect us to be. I mean, if you take them away, nothing means anything.
  • Mohinder Suresh: You're not the one I called.
  • Thompson: Glasses? Tall fella? He's no longer with the Company.
  • [last lines]
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] Oh no... It's the future.
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] What happened?
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] The bomb. We didn't stop it. I failed. So many people must have died.
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] Hiro. You have your sword now. You have your power. You can teleport us back... so we can fix this. And get us out of here. I don't like the future.
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] No. If this happened then we must have done something wrong. We must find out what mistakes we made. Then we can go back and stop it. Mr. Isaac. He will know what to do.
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] You said Mr. Isaac was dead when the bomb went off. Because of the brain man.
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] You're forgetting. In the past, the brain man got caught, remember? Mr. Isaac could still be alive. Come on!
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] I'm confused.
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in English] Hello, Mr. Isaac? Mr. Isaac?
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] What is all this?
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] I think it's... a timeline.
  • Ando Masahashi: [in Japanese] A timeline of what?
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in English] Mr. Isaac?
  • Future Hiro Nakamura: [in English] You.
  • Hiro Nakamura: [in English] Me?
  • Thompson: You know, you've been going about this all wrong, Professor. Trying to take on the science and the killer all in your home. What you're dealing with no man should face without friends. Now, we can provide you with the resources...
  • Mohinder Suresh: I didn't call about my research. The man who killed my Father and Peter Petrelli, he's still out there. That takes precedence over any academics. That sort if danger should be stopped.
  • Thompson: I can assure you we have similar priorities. The best way to stop Sylar is for us to work together.
  • Noah Bennet: [to Matt and Ted] That went better than I expected.
  • Thompson: I just got through with this Graham Greene I was reading.
  • Ted Sprague: Parkman?
  • Matt Parkman: We gotta go. Quickly!
  • Ted Sprague: No... But how did you even get in here?
  • Matt Parkman: Bennet. He's got a plan.
  • Mr. Linderman: I need to borrow your Micah... Briefly.
  • Jessica Sanders: Borrow?
  • Mr. Linderman: Yeah... That is... His talent. I want to help Micah acheive something monumental in his life. I had a plan in place that until recently began to unravel. I need your son to help me repair it.
  • Jessica Sanders: Micah wasn't part of our deal. I don't want him involved in all this.
  • Mr. Linderman: Understand... Micah is involved at the mere fact of his birth. Now I've been, I think, more than fair to you. I mean, I helped you out of a tough spot. Spared you that long walk to the gas chamber even. So... A chocolate milk, all the cookies he can eat, and I'll tell you what, I'll even make him a fresh sandwich myself.
  • Jessica Sanders: You need something from me, point and I'll shoot. Micah's off limits.
  • Mr. Linderman: [to Nathan] And it is your destiny Nathan to be the leader who uses this event to rally a city, a nation, a world. If you look deep into your heart, you know I'm right.
  • [first lines]
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] People think I collect art. What I really collect are lives fixed in paint. A perfect moment capturing an entire existence, made immortal.
  • Mohinder Suresh: What you've done isn't evolution, it's murder. What I am doing - is revenge.
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] A monster's fight to survive... and live to kill again. A mother willing to fracture her own soul to protect her child.
  • D.L. Hawkins: Don't lie to me anymore. You told me she was gone now. Which one of you is in control. Niki? Jessica?
  • Niki Sanders: I'm not so sure.
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] Youth's struggle for innocence, despite life's cruelty.
  • Claire Bennet: Who are you?
  • Angela Petrelli: I'm your grandmother.
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] The double-edged lies needed to sustain a double-edged life.
  • Sandra Bennet: He is going to be a problem. Why don't we do it right now?
  • [turning into Candice]
  • Candice Wilmer: Sorry.
  • Thompson: What do you think?
  • Matt Parkman: He's telling the truth. He doesn't know where Claire is.
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] A wandering hero's pure joy at success.
  • Hiro Nakamura: Yatta!
  • Mr. Linderman: [voice over narration] And his darkest hour, when all the world seems lost. All perfect moments frozen in time. Alone, each tells a single story. Together, they can tell the future
  • Nathan Petrelli: What could you possibly know about healing?
  • Mr. Linderman: [touches dying plant, then waves hand in front of it slowly as the plant heals] A few things.
  • Mr. Linderman: [to Nathan] We all have our roles to play in the events to come.
  • Mr. Linderman: This isn't just a collection of art. This is a road map. These artists envisioned a brighter future: peace, prosperity...
  • Nathan Petrelli: That's your idea of a brighter future?
  • [points at painting of nuclear explosion]
  • Mr. Linderman: What if I was to tell you that it was?
  • Nathan Petrelli: I'd say you were a lousy humanitarian.
  • Peter Petrelli: Suresh...? Suresh...? It's Peter Petrelli... Mohinder...?
  • Mohinder Suresh: Sylar...
  • Sylar: I remember you... You're like me aren't you? I'd like to see how that works.
  • Angela Petrelli: I cared about you a great deal. Perhaps not in the traditional sense, oatmeal cookies and school plays, but I did what I could. My husband and I made arrangements for you.
  • Claire Bennet: Arrangements?
  • Angela Petrelli: Then that fire happened and Nathan just assumed you were gone, so...
  • Claire Bennet: So you let him.
  • Angela Petrelli: It was the right thing to do. You needed to be protected.
  • Claire Bennet: Trust me, I don't need protecting.
  • Angela Petrelli: Because you can grow back your bones and spit out bullets? You have no idea, Claire. The life your abilities would bring you? You deserve better. And that's why you have to go and get you away like we planned.
  • [Claire is losing her patience with Angela Petrelli]
  • Claire Bennet: [to Angela] I haven't seen Peter or met my father yet.
  • Angela Petrelli: Neither of them is in a position to be anything to you right now. Be sensible.
  • Claire Bennet: By shipping me off to Paris?
  • Angela Petrelli: For now, yes. I'll be taking you there myself. You'll have a chance to grow up and develop into someone who can make her own choices, and then if you choose to come back and join this madness like I once did... at least I will have given you the option...
  • Claire Bennet: So you're like me?
  • [awkward pause]
  • Isaac Mendez: [to Courier Fan Boy] Promise you won't post any spoilers?
  • D.L. Hawkins: Everywhere you go, people die. Cash, cars, hurting people for the fun of it... Hell, you didn't turn into Jessica, you turned into your old man.
  • Jessica Sanders: Don't you dare...
  • D.L. Hawkins: I'll die before I let you do to Micah what he did to you.
  • Goon: Miss Anderson. Mr. Linderman has asked to see you right away.
  • D.L. Hawkins: If this is the life you want, you need to get Micah out of it. You can say goodbye tonight.
  • Mr. Linderman: The request was a courtesy, dear.
  • Jessica Sanders: Send anyone you want. You're not touching my son.
  • Matt Parkman: [to Ted] You're always talking about how you want to die, yet you fight like hell to stay alive. Some part of you wants to live, and for that, we need Bennet!
  • [Peter is holding the piece of glass Claire pulled out of his head]
  • Peter Petrelli: What do you do with something that killed you?
  • Nathan Petrelli: You could put it underneath your pillow.
  • [pauses]
  • Nathan Petrelli: I don't know what I would've done.
  • Peter Petrelli: Don't think about it. I didn't die.
  • Nathan Petrelli: Yeah, but if you had...
  • Noah Bennet: [Ted, Mr. Bennet, and Matt have escaped and in the Burnt Toast Diner] I recommend the cherry pie.
  • Matt Parkman: Shouldn't we keep a low profile?
  • Noah Bennet: They won't come after us in a public place. They wouldn't risk it.
  • Matt Parkman: How can you be so sure?
  • [Mr. Bennet looks at him expectantly]
  • Noah Bennet: Point taken.
  • Matt Parkman: [to Ted] Eat up. It's a long road ahead.
  • Ted Sprague: Forget it. I'm getting the hell out of here.
  • Noah Bennet: They will find you. As long as they have that tracking device, you'll never be safe.
  • Matt Parkman: Neither will Claire.
  • Noah Bennet: Look. This is well protected, but we can get to it. Destroy it. No more bagging and tagging, no more looking over your shoulder, we can end it all.
  • Ted Sprague: Where is this tracking system?
  • Noah Bennet: New York City. We're leaving on the next bus.
  • Matt Parkman: Is this where Linderman is?
  • Noah Bennet: Where did you get that name?
  • Matt Parkman: From your boss, Thompson. He was thinking about sending us to see this Linderman guy, I figured that must be who you're working for.
  • Ted Sprague: So what's that supposed to mean?
  • Matt Parkman: What it means is he's a shlub.
  • Noah Bennet: Linderman isn't in New York, he's in Las Vegas.
  • Matt Parkman: So this is really Linderman Linderman, the mobster who owns all those casinos? What does he have to do with all this?
  • Noah Bennet: Apparently more than I knew.
  • Matt Parkman: I say we go to Vegas, we take the fight to Linderman...
  • Noah Bennet: No. We stick with the plan. We take out the tracking system, then whoever's left standing can go after Linderman.
  • Ted Sprague: New York. I've always wanted to go...
  • Waitress Lynette: You boys ready to order?
  • Mr. Linderman: [Mr. Linderman and Micah meet for the first time] That's alright, gentlemen. I want to greet this young man, myself. It's a great pleasure to meet you, Micah.
  • [he shakes Micah's hand]
  • Micah Sanders: Thank you.
  • Mr. Linderman: How would you like to save the world today?
  • [Micah looks at "Jessica," who smiles at him]
  • Nathan Petrelli: [Nathan sees Hiro in one of Isaac's paintings] I have seen him before.
  • Daniel Linderman: If you see him again tell him I want my sword back.
  • Claire Bennet: Daddy, I'm so sorry.
  • Noah Bennet: Claire?
  • Claire Bennet: [grabs him by the shoulders] It's all my fault. I tried to do what you said, but they caught me, and now...
  • [hugs her father]
  • Claire Bennet: I'm so scared!
  • [stark realization dawns on Noah, and he pushes her away]
  • Claire Bennet: What is it?
  • Noah Bennet: You. You're not...
  • Claire Bennet: Not what?
  • Noah Bennet: [snarls] Not you.
  • [and 'Claire' transforms into Candice]
  • Isaac Mendez: You are the one who is gonna kill me.
  • Sylar: That's true. This is usually the part when people start screaming.
