This movie is a big let down. The build was OK but there are no horror bits whatsoever. Don't know why Amazon lists such titles on Prime.

Despite good locations and good work by the supporting cast, the director's vision falls flat. Amazon Prime should be more selective in their content selection.

brunovanael9 May 2020Quite a few scenes were most definitely inspired by the Blair Witch Project. The abundance of dialog would kill any scary atmosphere, if ever there was one. Felt more like a tacky soap than a horror movie. But on the bright side... some beautiful locations.

Praise worthy things: 1.A brief insight of the movie title(myths,facts and tradition). 2.Suitable background score and visual effects. 3.Shooting a car ride scene in a real muddy village road. 4.Story/folklore connection with a real well known family. 5.The Bhoot related genuine phrasing like,tantrik ritual of sacrifice,'Nishi daak' etc. 6.Great use of deteriorating structure(kathamo) of Devi Idol in the dark forest road. 7.The ending scene with the little girl.
The things,which I felt wasn't necessary or sometimes was not appropriate or could have been better: 1. Debu's character. 2.A half minute long vomiting scene of frightened Debu(at the spooky palace). 3.The place Rono took them and they(Pritha and Debu) have cheered, 'so awesome ,so beautiful,so cool',wasn't properly presented in the movie,to make me feel the same. 4.Fire cracker burst scene was not that horrifying. 5. After getting frightened and lost in forest road all of them suddenly shouted at each other,creating chaos,that scene was too long for a horror movie. 6. Debu's dragging scene and scene of hanging voodoo dolls from the trees, felt like it was copied from some other horror movie,'The Blair witch project'. 7. The well reminds me of movie 'The Ring'. -
I had little anticipation for a good plot but never thought it would be such crap! How the hell they landed up back to the same old haunted house and even if so, why they should go back in there? Unbelievable plot--to add to that the couples started romancing there! Stuck in an old haunted house --with snakes and dust and all--best place to propose for a marriage! And the ending--what happened to the guy called Rono-was that a hallucination? Or the director wanted to shoot a great night shot and imagined that stuff up!
Hard to believe that it has a rating of 4.4!! Should be hardly 1-2 -
First of all, I would like to clarify that I am not a Bengali, neither Bangla is my first language and nor I can read, speak or understand Bengali. I came across this movie through Amazon prime as it was the part of the new releases under Prime day celebrations. I have watched the whole movie with English subtitles.
Now lets talk about the movie, it is being marketed / projected as a horror movie which it is not. It is not even scary to the slightest bit. In some scenes it is actually funny. I don't know if it is a cultural thing but the two male lead actors are projected as wusses. Both dudes start vomiting as soon as they see any sign of blood or dead bodies of animals. Really? each Bengali eats fish atleast 5 to 6 times in a week. Do you think fish are vegetables of the sea? you cannot stomach road kill? consuming so many aquatic animals and then being scared of dead animals does not makes sense to me.
In the year 2019 the director is making a cheap copy of 1999 movie "The Blair Witch Project" I understand that part but your movie is not scary neither it is entertaining. Three out of 4 lead actors can actually act and the director Shabbir Mallick has wasted there talent. What has happened to Bengali cinema?
Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne was one of my favorite child hood movie which I saw on Doordarshan again with English subtitles. Even certain episodes of Satyajit Ray Presents were more scary then this movie. Highly disappointed with this movie. -

Horror films are usually deemed as some rare, exiguous commodities in the regional market! Thus, it's quite saddening to see a promising product get wasted like that!
I know the locally based industries have limited budgets; there's a tangible scarcity in their funding, so to fully commit yourself to a project that may not bring the kind of profits you expect, it does get difficult, but hey, they had all the ingredients they needed.
A spooky location (it's Raipur Raj Bari; I've been there myself and it is an amazing place to shoot at), creepy folklore, and a competent enough cast; still, the movie somehow failed to achieve what it intended, and that just makes me sad! Even more so because I could see the wasted opportunities, I could pinpoint the exact places where they could have made some necessary changes! It's infuriating, to say the least! -

meetthemsm11 July 2019Well I will discuss the plot here...it is very good film. Plot The film starts with Ena Saha is drawing a figure of a girl's face vigorously on the walls of a mental asylum. She has drawn the same picture all over the walls. The story then goes to flashback.
Aryann is an aspiring filmmaker and want to make a documentary picture on 'Lakshmi's Bari' , a supposedly haunted place which is situated on the banks of Ajay river. This place is on the outskirts of bolpur. Aryann along with ena, his girlfriend and ena's friend deepshita and her boyfriend soumendra all travel to the place by car on the evening prior to bhoot chaturdashi. Although initially deepshita and soumendra were not excited about these haunted house visit plan they gave a chance hoping for a vacation.
After reaching bolpur, they gathered various information about that haunted place. It is revealed that Lakshmi was illegal child of tagore family and she was kept at a palace made for her and she was all alone in that palace. After her arrival some mysterious incidents started to occur in the surroundings which leads to the Tantriks discovering that she may a witch and also can be actually godess chamunda's reincarnation . To stop her evil actions she should be devoted to goddess chamunda. To complete this ritual she was burned alive but in her burned state she ran away and was never found. Those who burned her died due to fire within one year and that place became haunted. Despite warnings aryann and her friends still went to shoot in that house. During their journey they discovered puppets in the shape of human and they came to know from a psychic man that these puppets can come to live if done by certain ritual. Next they met a Baba who also supported the fact that Lakshmi's Bari is indeed haunted and they shouldn't go there . He also said that Lakshmi is very much alone there as she has no one to play with her so if Lakshmi want to play with them ,they must oblige.
After reaching that place aryann started exploring that house with camera , while deepshita and her boyfriend inspite of having no interest coming here started to explore too. Ena meanwhile found an anklet. Meanwhile aryann found a skeleton which was rotten implying that old sacrifice ritual might still be in practice. While they were busy shooting and exploring, a child was running around that they didn't notice. During their stay they feel some kind of spookyness although they didn't notice anything significantly. After they were done with their shooting they reached to a river side place. Aryann and rest were relaxing there when they encountered gathering of lots of villagers and tantriks and a cremation was taking place. They came to know that that day being bhoot chaturdashi, these type of things do occur. As they were done with the shooting they were heading towards return journey during which they found a strange looking goddess idol in the middle of the road and that idol was again present at some other place during their journey. At that point they realized that something sinister is there so they they want to get rid of that place as soon as possible but they couldn't reach their desired destination instead after driving without having proper way out they some how reaced Lakshmi's bari. This time they heard a children's laughing and mischievous sound. While Ena told them that Lakshmi might want to say something, soumendra who got very much scared when a chunk of cement fell just near to him and he wanted to get away from there and hence they all fleed inspite of Ena's unwillingness but after some time their car went out of fuel and soumendra blamed aryann for everything and after a heated argument and aryann who was upset with soumendra from the beginning due to latter's behavior pushed soumendra . Soumendra in a feat of rage want to heat aryann but was taken away by an unwatchable force. They all started to run away but somehow they again reached Lakshmi's bari with no exit door. Meanwhile deepshita , now possessed fell into the well hence died. Meanwhile all the premises got enlightened suddenly with candels. Moreover lots of people started to gather there along with some Tantriks to do some kind of sacrifice ritual. Ena figured out that as it is bhoot chaturdashi, hence a sacrifice will take place. Suddenly she found out that Aryann is missing and after hearing his scream she quickly found out her but to her horror, he was helplessly kept in a 'harikatha' and was beheaded by a tantrik and Ena screamed her hearts out. In the outskirts those fellow villagers who were activity taking part in that ritual revealed to be possessed or they were dead all the time.
Back to present, Ena is drawing Lakshmi's picture all over the walls and repeatedly saying that if Lakshmi wants to play with you ,you must play with her. It is then revealed that she is possessed by the ghost of Lakshmi.
In the final scene Lakshmi in her deathbed attire , sitting in her palace and she has a eerie smile on her burned face and the credits roll. -
