  • Fabienne Fabrèges wins a lot of money at the casino and tells her lover she has a way of making even more. She opens an upper-crust crack crib, where rich people are liberally supplied with morphine and ether. Soon, however, cracks open in this utopian vision....

It's an indictment of upper-class behavior. While young men are dying at the Front in the Great War, the rich are indulging their basest desires. It soon leads to tragedy.

At times the performers' behavior made little sense to me, but I guess that's what the film makers wanted. Lavishly produced on what looks like the Italia Films sets, it's visually stunning..... and thoroughly disgusting.
