Nothing can describe this story. It's one of the best works in hindi literature. As I have read original novel i can say that the series can't get more accurate. Just watch it and appreciate the power of good writing.

Authentic because I can validate the depiction of village life, it's people , culture and way of living. As i was born and spent some significant years there growing up.
Timeless because the struggle shown is always relatable to contemporary characters.

As brilliant as something written by PremchandJi and directed by Gulzaar can be. You feel kinda betrayed when Nirmala is cut short right when you start to feel immensely for the characters and long for more, but it nevertheless steals the heart. BUT the best of the series is very obviously Godaan.
Watch it for immaculate portrayal of destitution, lovable characters, and quite frankly bad-ass women.
