  • Well 1st of all don't go for the bad reviews because this film deserves a one time watch formula. It has story, thrill, suspense and the perfect climax. There's been a plot hole in the storyline but then to film will grip you till the end and make this movie and edge of the thriller watch. Aditya Roy Kapoor acts brilliantly throughout the film as well as the rest of the cast. Mrunal was good but not upto the mark as she was trying to get the officer role perfect but unfortunately it's just average in the film. Twins story type of films we have seen many times but this story is different and the suspense elements is worth a watch. So it's definitely a 1 time watch if you are looking for a fresh story or new this weekend. Just go for this one and you'll completely enjoy it....
  • The movie begins on a high note, but is soon dragging along. Compulsory, bad songs add to the yawn. It gets interesting in the second half when the two parallel stories come together.

Without any spoilers, police investigations have been made a mockery of. No background check of suspects, no establishing of motive, no serious attempt to connect the dots between suspects, etc.

Aditya is same in every frame. Fail to understand why there is a compulsion for modern day actors to wear a two-day beard. There is no experimenting with looks these days. Mrunal looks so uncomfortable playing a tough cop. There is not one brilliant shot of hers. This has to be her one of the worst performances. A good opportunity wasted. The lead pair looks mismatched.

If you have yo watch it, do it for the last half hour when things start yo make sense.

    Overall, an ok one-time watch.

Concept of the script was good and with supported search supporting their cause and I liked that Aditya Roy kapoor did very good acting and justice to his role and Ronit Roy is also a good actor, I like his acting skills and other than that all cast were bad actors and whole movie was dump, pointless and very predictable. The script was so good that if they had worked on it a little bit more they could have made a good movie like drashyam but Bollywood wale mehnat he nhi krna chahta. Itni achi script bs camera lekr jabardasti movie shoot kr di. Thodi si mehnat krni chaiye thi.. if they would have worked just 10-15% on script and direction, the movie would have been amazing and I would have rated it 9/10 but right now it deserves only 5 but one extra point for Aditya Roy Kapoor.
  • I just watched it on Netflix. When I started watching the movie, I had no hopes for this movie as I have heard negative reviews when the movie was released. I was expecting Gumhrah between Mrunal and Adi and their love story. I liked the concept and the storyline. This movie definitely has it flaws in screenplay execution and the camera work. There is way too many patches and the continuity was not there to keep you gripped. The characters are not perfect fit for the roles except did like Ms Pinto. One time watch if you're really bored and can't find anything else to watch. I enjoy mystery genre.

Gumraah (2023) is a compelling thriller that weaves a complex narrative around love, betrayal, and the consequences of choices. Directed by auteur filmmaker Aryan Kapoor, the movie offers a fresh perspective on the age-old theme of morality and the thin line between right and wrong.

The film's strength lies in its well-crafted screenplay, which keeps the audience on the edge of their seats throughout. The story unfolds seamlessly, gradually revealing layers of deception and unexpected twists that add depth to the plot. Kapoor's adept direction keeps the pacing tight, and the suspense builds steadily, making Gumraah an engaging watch.

The performances are a standout aspect of the film. Lead actors deliver commendable portrayals, effectively conveying the emotional turmoil of their characters. The chemistry between the cast is palpable, enhancing the authenticity of the relationships portrayed on screen. Special mention goes to the supporting cast, whose nuanced performances contribute significantly to the overall impact of the film.

Visually, Gumraah is a treat for the senses. The cinematography captures the mood and tension of each scene, utilizing a mix of atmospheric lighting and dynamic camera work. The film's soundtrack complements the narrative, enhancing the emotional impact of key moments.

While Gumraah successfully navigates the complexities of its plot, some viewers might find certain plot twists predictable or reminiscent of similar thriller tropes. Additionally, the climax, while satisfying, leaves a few loose ends that could have been tied up more conclusively.

In conclusion, Gumraah (2023) is a solid thriller that offers a captivating storyline, strong performances, and impressive technical elements. While it doesn't break new ground in terms of narrative innovation, its execution and engaging plot make it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
  • Film Review : Gumraah streaming on Netflix

A bit late here, but this review is primarily for those who are looking for decent weekend watch and have not watched this film as yet!! So here goes...

A gruesome murder is perpetrated on a rainy night and the perpetrator is caught by the police!! Story over .. right.. no....u cudnt have been more wrong since this is just the start of the film .There is a twist in the tale here when it is found that the primary suspect has an uncanny look-alike? Who is the murderer? One of them ? Both ? Yaa koi aur third person ? This is what the film is all about!!

Aditya Roy Kapoor in a double role has given a decent performance.. Hamming sometimes but not bad. Ronit Roy shines bright in his small role. Mrunal Thakur starts off well but her role loses sheen & it feels as if she was sidelined midway .. an ok ok performance from a talented actress!!

Plot is fast paced with the murder happening in the first few minutes itself thereby creating the right ambience for a grt whodunnit. However the flashbacks and songs which take u into the love life of Aditya Roy Kapoor are painfully long and slow down the narrative big time.

The climax is decent and shows some real life cases on which this film has been based on.

Cudve been better!! But not bad either!!

Going with 3/5 for this .. adios 🙂

  • The story itself is confusing but it is a necessary for thriller. The suspense was very unique. I mean, there is very few movie has been made movie on a identical twin character.

Now "Mrunal Thakur" is a big disappointment. From beginning her act looks like she is not fulfilling the expression required. Although, it was a challenging role. The only person I can think of is "Tabu" who could have taken this movie in 8.5 rating. Anyway she tried her best because it was her debut.

Aditya Roy kapur and Ronit Roy was really great in acting. That is the reason it was not looking really bad. Apart from it, there were certain side character didn't perform well. Casting choice and Direction was a bit lacking.

A good job for "Aditya Roy Kapur" since it was challenging role for him. Hope he gets more credit. He has talent but he doesn't get good stories most of time.
  • Just watched the movie, loved the story and acting. It was very nice original twist of movie of crime murder whodunit mystery related. Acting by everyone very nice and authentic I found especially Aditya roy kapoor, ronit roy and Mrunal was also very good acting wise. There seems to resurgence of good crime thrillers these days this is pary of them. If you liked recent thriller movies like Ittefaq and Badla then this movie too would be in similar lines very engaging. I would give 8 of 10 stars to this.

Great location also and quite tight script it was till the end engaging. Only thing superflous was too many song sequence not needed. Overall great weekend worth worth the money.
  • The movie has a decent plot, but fails in execution.

The direction is amateurish and pacing is all over the place

You can watch for twists and turns in the story but don't expect something spectacular

The movie feels cheap, probably because of the execution. This movie does not need a lot of money (if they saved some money from shooting dance numbers they could've used it in polishing the movie).

There's bogus action sequences thrown around which do end up making slight sense when the story reveals itself but it's not great.

Watch only if you want to pass time and not witch something totally worthless as the inspiration is fine.
  • I have watched both movies the original tamil movie Thadam 2019 and this copy Gumrah and found the original one way better than this.

Actually the title Gumrah is for audience bollywood doesn't have anything new original of their own so now they are copying tamil, telgu, kannad and other languages movies even the spanish movies lol.

I found it very difficult to sit through it till the end. Those flashbacks could have been cut short. They were unnecessary. Mrunal Thakur was okay. Ronit Roy was wasted. Aaditya Roy Kapoor not bad. Overall if bollywood doesn't come up with something their own original then their end is near.

    10/10
    Amazing
Outstanding acting from Aditya Roy and original storyline. Had me guessing all along and I was engaged for the entirety of the movie. No boring bits. Well balanced movie. Great thriller. It's been a while since we have had a movie like this. No unnecessary additions to the story line to make the movie long and each main character played extremely well. Loved the ending and I don't think any actor can beat the amazing work Aditya has done. He is truly a versatile actor. His acting is so natural and his dialogue delivery in on point and facial expressions natural and unforced. I think he is underrated!
  • Even though it was predictable, they could have at the least made it a little interesting. Making it complicated, doesn't necessarily makes it interesting. Casting was okay. Script was dragged.

I don't have any doubts that the film will not see any commercial success.

I found it very difficult to sit through it till the end. Those flashbacks could have been cut short. They were unnecessary. Mrunal Thakur was okay. Ronit Roy was wasted. Aaditya Roy Kapoor not bad.

I have not seen the original movie, Thadam, but I am pretty sure that is boring too. It seems like the movie was made, just for the heck of it.
  • It is an awesome suspense thriller movie. You can't leave your seat until the movie ends. You will be surprised from time to time. There are lots of twists and turns in this film. Aditya Roy Kapur just nailed it. In both roles, he is awesome and mind-blowing. Mrunal Thakur's performance is superb. She has done a great job. Ronit Roy is perfect in his role. All the other actors have done very good work. If you love suspense, mystery, thriller, action, and also some comedy and a little bit of romance too, then don't miss "Gumraah."Everyone's acting is very nice, I think everyone should watch the movie at least once.
  • Sameer lodaya

The plot was one of its kind but the makers wasted

It started with a bang but could not sustain as the story suddenly diverted to love angles and became very slow and some how the first half was completed..the second half then became interesting but there also repeated scenes killed the thrilled..all the elements like love, hate, family ,friendship, murder mystery ,were poorly presented and hence in the climax they were connected

Aditya looked and acted very stiff in his expressions and dance moves mrunal as a cop looked very tiny and delicate nothing great was offered

sorry for the negative review as I want the makers to get true feedback in order to help them by making good entertainment.
  • Not your typical suspense where main thing is hidden till the end. Things kept getting more and more interesting.

Performance of the actors was great. Story was unique. And the way it unfolded was interesting.

There were multiple facets to every plot point, and they didn't stretch anything. So felt like a crisp movie with good execution of storyline.

First half can feel a bit slow, but still wasn't completely wasteful. It's necessary to build up characters and explain why someone would do what they did.

So overall it was a good experience while watching the film. Refreshing, and doesn't give you time to think. You can keep guessing but I don't think anyone could've pinpointed what happened.
  • While the underlying plotline had the potential to turn into something special, its poor direction as well as poor editing made things very difficult, and the execution fell short of attaining its primary ambitions. The pacing was also erratic, with some scenes feeling rushed and others dragging on for too long. It's unfortunate that such a promising premise was ultimately let down by subpar execution. That said, Aditya did well; he played both parts with equal conviction, and it's only because of him that I'm being generous here and giving this movie a higher rating than it actually deserves.
  • This movie is a murder mystery. Full action packed movie. Absolutely interesting right from the starting till end it keeps you engaged. You know who is the murderer and who got murdered and even after getting a lead to prove the murderer, all efforts goes in vain. Aditya Roy Kapur has given his best in and that also he maintained to give his double role characters absolutely different flavour. Mrunal as an police officer steals everyone's heart. Ronit Roy too manages to entertain the audience with his extraordinary acting skills and dialouge delivery. Overall the team of Gumraah succeeds in entertaining you all throughly. Its streaming on Netflix and highly recommended..do give it a try.
  • I haven't seen the original film Thadam, but from this remake , one thing i could conclude is that , the film was nothing extraordinary. It's basically a Dhoom 3 like concept, so if you know how Amir Khan in dhoom 3 committed thefts, you can easily predict how exactly the murderer might have committed and got away with murder in gumraah.

The only things left for me to be answered was why the murder was committed, two, how "exactly" the murderer got away despite knowing the concept, and three, who amongst the two lookalikes committed the murder , which is linked to the first question.

The third question is also easily answerable if you have watched multiple whodunit thrillers . The one who looks the most suspicious in the entire film will not be the culprit for sure and Gumraah presents this concept in no different way. The only thing they added was , as i mentioned, the dhoom 3 like concept of committing crimes.

There was no need for songs in this film. Performance wise everyone, except the lady who played the mother, was okayish . The first half is definitely slow in building up but picks up pace in 2nd half where everything towards the end is revealed in an extremely messy way that can easily confuse audience.

Overall, not the best suspense thriller i watched . Some parts of this film were good but being so predictable ruined my experience.
  • Perfectly made and keeps up the interest till the end of the movie.

I just started the movie without any review checks and watching the movie trailer and it was a wonderful experience.

Arjun Kapoor is a underrated actor. Cast was perfect.

After watching the movie, I thought to check IMDb rating, to my surprise it was 6.5! TBH, I can't believe. Then, I came to know this is copied of South Indian movie, maybe that's the reason rating is average. But, the direction was nice, actors were amazing. Just go for it.

I would have given 9 because of unwanted songs, but I watched this on Netflix, so I skipped the songs, and for me it's a 10. ;)
  • The story is suspenseful and engaging. The film is beautifully shot and directed, with a great sense of atmosphere and style. The score is also effective in creating tension and suspense. The film does a great job of building tension and keeping the audience guessing until the very end. The characters are complex and well-developed. If you are a fan of Hindi cinema, or if you simply enjoy a good suspense film, then I highly recommend checking out Gumraah. Given it is inspired from true incidents, the story is more baffling and this is what that makes this movie more interesting. It is a great one time watch! Kudos to the film crew and staff. Looking forward to many more thriller movies.
  • Bad acting from aditya roy kapoor. The film is so convincingly stiched as per the director. The ending isn't conclusive, and caused more confusion, and the bollywood movies are meant to create more confusion in the beginning, and try to create a gumraah in the end really. The acting of Aditya Roy Kapoor can really fathom to the deep., for few more years until I do not hear any performance from him. There are quite number of glitches that I had found during the movie experience, and I cannot really fathom deep into my heart. Henceforthe, I do not recommend bollywood to stop making serious movies, and rather concentrate making some better masala movies which are just one timer. You understand what I mean.
  • A remake of the 2019 Tamil film Thadam, Vardhan Ketkar's directorial venture skillfully engages you right from the opening scene when a murder is committed to the end when the mystery unravels. The whodunnit becomes more intriguing since the investigating officer, Shivani Mathur (Mrunal Thakur), needs to figure out the real culprit from two doppelganger suspects, Arjun Saigal and Ronnie (Aditya Roy Kapur).

Writers Aseem Arora and Magizh Thirumeni's screenplay and Vardhan Ketkar's taut direction ensure the story moves along quickly for most part, even when the narrative goes into flashbacks. It does lose some pace intermittently, in the first part mainly as the story builds up, but there are twists waiting to pick things up again. The evidence pointing towards both the guys equally, is well done. The movie does not use tropes of double role fares, in that, it does not overdo the mistaken identity conundrum. Despite being a straightforward story, the plot twists are engrossing, and the story becomes better with a refreshing backstory.

The film is based on real-life incidents, which makes it more curious. Thus, even if the story seems a bit farfetched, the examples given in the end will convince you.

Ketan Sodha's background score adds to the thrill, and the soundtrack has hummable tunes. Mithoon's Allah De Bande and Abhijit Vaghani's title track especially stand out.

Aditya Roy Kapur's characters are as different as chalk and cheese, and he shines in both. He plays the nattily-dressed professional with as much elan as the streetsmart crook, Ronnie. The actor delivers snarky lines with as much coolth as he does stunts and emotes. His scenes with Chaddi (Deepak Kalra) elicit laughter. Mrunal as the no-nonsense, smart and diligent cop stands her ground, as does Ronit Roy as her conniving boss, ACP Dhiren Yadav. Vedika Pinto plays Arjun's girlfriend and performs well despite a limited screen time.

An engaging plot, twists and turns and good storytelling make Gumraah worth watching. The motive behind the murder may not come as a big surprise but the suspense will keep you intrigued until the end.
  • This one is a passable thriller which keeps you engaged during its runtime except towards the end when it sags a bit. The premise is interesting where two identical twins are arrested for a crime and the police are pretty sure that one of them is guilty but they are not able to pinpoint which one has committed the crime. It is based on a Tamil movie which I have not seen ,so I can't compare but some reviewers have said the Tamil version was better and I will take their word for it. Originals are normally better anyway. In the post credit scenes the makers have mentioned names from actual cases worldwide where the law could not decide which identical twin was guilty.

Director Vardhan Ketkar has made a fast paced and slick movie and the action scenes are entertaining with some good cinematography and editing. Aditya Roy Kapoor has got full opportunity to showcase his talent in two diverse roles and he doesn't disappoint. Mrinal Thakur plays a sincere, obedient and duty conscious police officer under a rather curt and rude ACP Ronit Roy who does this villainous role well as usual. The dialogue helps to maintain the suspenseful flow. There is hardly any romance, music or comedy. As mentioned, the movie becomes a bit confusing and drags towards the end.
  • Gripping Start.

Awesome direction. Great acting by every one on the cast. Good twist and turn till the end to Keeps everyone guessing.

Each and every actor has done a great job.

This movie should have been released in theatre.

It is must watch. Shows brother hood in a different way. Aditya roy kapur has evolved a lot. Mrunal has different shad after seetaramam. Ronit roy as usual at his best.

In a lst a hug between brothers would have made a great impact. Back ground music and songs can definitely make more impact Emotion sad, anger, happiness, romance all was equally clubbed

Sequel can be planned for this movie.

10 mins into this movie and i am bored at the lack of logic. The lady inspector simply deduces without any reasoning, wannabe detective but alas! A joke. And then, all evidence on the the phone. This is the worst remake. Complete overacting without any substance.

One needs to see the original and not waste time time on this pathetic attempt. I dont know why bollywood movies are all remakes. Look at that ajay devgan, the person who would not be in movies, except for his father. Same boring style, depressing smile, and no acting skills whatsoever. Just producing movies for self. This bollywood is kaput.
