  • Slapstick is not my preferred genre so I am usually wary of comedies be it films or serials, always at the ready with the Fast Forward and happy to switch off completely if it is mindlessly over the top. I had actually started watching a thriller a couple of evenings ago but that was getting too scary for night time viewing, ergo I decided to watch TRIPLES (Hotstar in orig. Tamil w.Eng. subs).

Triples is quite hilarious at times, the plot arises out of a real issue that does occur with alarming and unfortunately frequency in Indian marriages ... parental pressure on the couple to produce a grandchild, preferably sooner rather than later; snide remarks from the in laws when the wife fails to get pregnant and other unhappy consequences.

The Triples trio of best friends and start up partners Ram, Maadhu and Cheenu are provided a counterfoil in three female characters Meera, Mythili and Janaki. The gangster Baby Chetta, the politician Chelladurai, their respective goons, Ram's mother, Janaki's policeman friend, and several other characters add to the tangled web of non stop fun, albeit with a few poignant moments and a feel good ending. The acting is mostly good and some of the dialogues are really humorous. Though the story gets convoluted towards the latter half, the episodes being relatively short help sustain the interest.

Summary: A Fun And Well Made Comedy Series !

It's the perfect holiday movie. Story, screenplay and acting were all good in general excpet for Jai. Bugger acted like an amateur. If not, it's good. Enjoyed thoroughly
  • Triples serves us a typical fun filled, youth orientated, commercial elements induced potboiler. Though the series consists of 8 episodes, the entire run time is only a little over 3 hours. Even though Triples is very much on the predictable lines and pretty lethargic for the first few episodes, fun filled plot and some good comical writing, lights up the series from the fourth episode onwards.

Director Charukesh Shekar's attempt to make a new age comedy on the lines of legendary Crazy Mohan's style, is not very off the mark. The characters names in the series are also a reference to Crazy Mohan's theatre sketches. Triples I believe is is the first Tamil web series to be presented in UHD 4K and HDR. Production design, costumes and makeup are a typical of any Tamil movie. Cinematography is vibrant, depicting the mood of the series. Editing is good at 3 hours runtime for a web series. Music is a mixed bag throughout the series, though a couple of songs are good but they are let down by some terrible vocals.

Overall, a typical youth oriented fun fest, with Jai in the helm ably supported by a gang of decent supporting cast and some gorgeous ladies. If one likes Tamil comedies and aren't in the mood for some serious stuff, then Triples is just for you. But a little patience should be thrown in for an about an hour to unlock the humour that unfolds from the second hour onwards. 5.8 stars out of 10 for its content, and "some" nostalgic elements written in Triples reminding us the style of late legendary Crazy Mohan sir.

    AWESOME
Just awesome 🤗 go and watch if u haven't watched still means It's really awesome series
  • The side has done a great job madhu and his wife charcter played well .They overshines every other actors. Even sometime it looks like they r main character.

Jai character charisma went wrong. it is there in first episode and then it disappears completely.

Vani bhojan has less character .

other heroine is just a waste of time

Totally a comedy with a cyclic money rotation twists...

    Not an impactful thing.

    just a time pass
  • Thoroughly enjoyed the series. Was so humorous and family friendly. Witty word plays. Laughed so hard. Good acting by everyone.
  • A movie with the same story considering its runtime of just 2hours also, this would have been a boring one because every scene and the plot point of this series is so generic that, there were many movies grabbed success with such confusion, messing up things kind of scenes and this one being a series.. It seems repetitive and irritating after a point. Characters tend to mess up very lame things just for the sake of making it look funny. Janaki character was the most sensible. The basic point of this series of victimizing or showing sympathy on women for not able to give birth to a child is the major disconnect. Last episode was so clumsy that there was no clarity on who was wearing burka and the reason for wearing it. Editing was so shabby there. Overall it seemed potboiler because of its very ordinary writing. However comedy was good enough. It does bring a smile on your face at times. Vani Bojan was the main reason to watch it but even she was under used and had nothing to perform except to baby sit her husbands, friends child.
  • If you have loved Crazy Mohan comedies, you will like this also. Don't think too much about the logic. Just enjoy the quick jokes. It's fun!

Or make it seasons if each episodes are not hours long. It is fun interesting concept and all clean no vulgar scenes so its really worth watching with family. Good job south I'm northern but south is my fav
  • The pressure from society and family to quickly have babies for newlywed women formed the serious parts of this series. But the issue wasn't addressed properly.

The heroine Meera's situation was frustrating to see in 2020 as no one was supportive (not even her own parents).

Main factor is that the hero Ram is shown never supporting her especially with his backward minded parents. She even questions him when she finally snaps after being treated like crap by his parents almost on the verge of separation but he rather agree to the divorce than show support for his wife.

Also similar troupe with the fertility problem actually being Ram's fault but he never reveals that to anyone and lets everyone assume it's the poor heroine's fault. Ram thought getting married to a different girl will solve his problems (of course not, it doesn't solve anything). In fact he's ruining another person's life coz his mother would want a grandchild asap anyway " to shut the society's mouth". Again another backwards concept.

I watched till the end of the series, hoping they would properly address this but they never did.

At the end, they reunite because she gets pregnant- that's not the solution!! He didn't even apologise to Meera, he doesn't show that he learnt from his mistakes. The character arc is so bad.

Vani Bhojan has potential which was not used at all in these series, Jai : I laughed out loud when he said he's a young 25 boy looking for love ( it's so clichéd) but he did his character well. Namitha Krishnamurthy, Vivek Prasanna and Rajkumar were the real heroes of the series - they were entertaining.

For a series which brings up modern 'youth' issues surrounding gender equality, it doesn't show an equally modern approach to solve the issue.

Watch this series if you are looking for an average slapstick comedy with a lighter mood to fill your time.

  • naveenkrishnanh20 December 2020
The mini series is pretty bland, slow, uninspiring and full of cliches and no charisma !

None of the characters have any "life" and as an audience, you cannot cannot with anyone ! If this was a mindless comedy, we can ignore, but I did not laugh out out load once in this excruciating exercise of mediocrity and blandness !
  • Simply its a good rom-com series. Usually i don't write reviews. But this one deserve a review. We should appreciate this type content. Simply its a good rom-com series. • Super series with comedy romance etc. I loved it.The all cast was superb. Don't trust the critics.
  • The show is full of witty dialogues, word plays, pins and reminds one of Crazy Mohan writing. It flows excellently and seems like a movie split into several episodes. Kind of an extended version of 'Neram' movie. All characters are excellent and special Kudos to 'Janaki' character who is way too charming.

There's no adult content in it and is safe to watch as a family.
  • Story is a collage of old dramas with below average script and execution. I was able to laugh at one or two scenses but didn't had the mojo to concentrate and watch. I can recommend this series for those who had already seen lot of good series and movies and have nothing left to watch for time pass.

A mid plot with some funny moments but weak writing skills. You will not get bored tho coz it's entertaining.

The makers of Triples, the new eight-episode romantic comedy series on Disney+Hotstar VIP, have made it more than obvious that their show is a homage to the Crazy Mohan universe and his style of comic writing. Right from Panchathanthiram and Michael Madana Kama Rajan to Pammal K Sambandham and Maadhu And Cheenu, the influences/hat-tips are everywhere. The show is directed by Charukesh Sekar and presented by Karthik Subbaraj and stars Jai, Vivek Prasanna and Vani Bhojan, among others.
