  • I have this theory that white tights mean trouble. Seriously, beware of a girl in white tights. Either she's boring and clingy, and she won't leave you alone. Or she's exciting and unstable, and you can't get her out of your head. Lavinia Wilson's character in this movie, she's the second kind. The costume designer may have thought the white tights would go well with her ivory skin and auburn hair, and they do, but they mean trouble all the same. She rides her shiny vintage convertible with its big city plates into a tiny backward village and wreaks havoc on almost the entire adult male population. But she doesn't stop at turning heads and ruining marriages. She has a hidden agenda, and it seems she's willing to kill for it. With a little more panache, this could have been a hot pot spiced with sinful secrets and late revenge, but as it stands, it's a lukewarm stew with a little bit of everything thrown in. The various side stories about a corrupt community council, a blocked writer and his nagging lady friend aren't adding much value. Lavinia Wilson should go get herself cast in something way racier sometime soon. Wearing black tights perhaps.
