  • The first 4 eps its so fresh & entertaining.. but last 2 episodes, specially episode 6 just full cringe where everyone attitude from 3 West family really pushing too hard on ambition that lack the flair they have earlier in their characters, just to push the narrative. specially with Diana & Easton. what a shame.
  • Inevitably Aftertaste begs a comparison with 800 Words, the latter being a much more convincing work. Where Aftertaste really fails is its 30 min format. There are the interesting characters and situations here but it is impossible to become immersed in either because they are presented in such a rushed way. Why this was done is a mystery. There is light and dark, comedy and pathos, potential for character development not to mention an excellent cast but all is wasted on a format appropriate for frothy slapstick. Great potential but disappointing execution.
  • Aftertaste is a good fun, well acted and well written comedy. Did not know what to expect, but was hooked from the start. Hopefully there will be another series. Enjoy the ride!
  • I ran a restaurant for a few years in NSW. Obviously, things are slack in South Australia. It appears that one can run a Michelin Star restaurant out of a domestic kitchen. No need for stainless steel benches and coving on a tiled floor. It is also acceptable to wander around the kitchen with cow dung on your boots. Apart from that, a promising story-line was spoiled by ham acting from people who should (and probably do) know better. I remember seeing Peter Carroll on stage in the one-hander "The Christian Brothers" decades ago. He is one of Australia's finest stage actors but he should not bring over-the-top staginess into a TV role. Similarly, "Easton West" is a cardboard replica of a real chef. Natalie Abbott shows her lack of experience and rushes her lines (we need subtitles). My initial enthusiasm for this series dropped each week. It suffers from poor direction and a script that must have been written by a 15 year-old.

Entertaining, even if with the predictable plot, and I wait for the next episodes....A smile is all we need in those times...
  • I have to agree with Jeanmgradwell, the swearing is far too frequent and over the top. Why do writers and TV producers think in order to appeal to modern/younger audiences, the F-bomb must go off every second line. I occasionally use the word myself as do many people in day to day language, but seriously, in the real world it isn't used as frequently as it is in this show. Apart from that it's better than many Australian comedies I've watched in recent years.

Peter Carroll and Rachel Griffiths are wasted in this unfunny comedy with repulsive leading characters.
  • No need to criticise a show that's fun and is acutely Australian!! Love the grandfather !! Standout is Natalie Abbott
  • The acting is so good and that might be the problem. This show is really too toxic for me.
  • I cannot believe this show was nominated for any awards. The plot is predictable, the characters are just trite, annoying and rude. The level of vulgarity cancels the comedic side. I have endured three episodes and probably won't subject myself to any more. So sad to see the main actor lower himself to this level after enjoying him in so many other roles, like 800 Words. The only half worth watching characters are the old pop and the step father. It is so disappointing to see garbage like this being produced and then nominated for awards, as it may set the bar for future productions to be equally as bad, or worse.
  • If you want a true Australian comedy this is the one.
  • Jimmy's character is one dimensional and boring after episode 2 there is no more to him and we know there will be no surprises -Diana - very funny sharply written - a lil too woke for me - but the actress is talented... i will try not spoil this but for others. However for me tGrandpa/dad jim was one of the best characters - i would not have written him out - - the second season story arc was prosaic and new character replacing dead jim was underwhelming - i think it could have been more. But for a no thinking time in front of telly it is a nice diversion - i did not expect much and was not disappointed or surprised . I did find it from 800 Words looking to see what Erick T had done recently ....enough said - it is forgettable.
  • The life and times of a jackhole, bullying chef. Why has it become fashionable to create such unlikable characters? And who drops the F bomb on a bird? Utterly inane. Send this one back to the kitchen.
  • I'm not one to usually write reviews, but after seeing all of the whining about the swearing, I thought I'd better put one in for those of us who swear MORE than the characters of Aftertaste and love to see that represented.

Just finished the second season, and it has really hit its stride. The chemistry between Easton & Di is absolute gold. The food scenes are beautiful, and it shows off a lovely part of South Australia.

The humour is smart, tapping into Easton being completely out of the current moral zeitgeist, but going on his random rants somehow makes him seem the champion of those values.

If you can bloody enjoy a celebration of the national pastime of swearing, and like to see dickheads called out in hilarious fashion, this is the show for you. Get it up ya!

After watching the first 5 episodes it is clear that the ABC have totally wasted taxpayer funds. Badly written, poorly acted and completely irrelevant. Surely no one finds this amusing?

This was a fun, fresh, cheeky drama/comedy with characters that made you want to tune in to see what they would "cook up" next. I loved that it wasn't another medical, crime, or lawyer show (way overdone). One of of my favorite characters was Diana with her quips and witty personality. Next was the twist of what starts out as a booty-call type of relationship between Margot and Weston. Margot was calling all the shots and I loved her dry wit as well. What was fun was seeing the creative dishes that came from Diana. Even the bitterness of Denise was part of the amusement. Super disappointed to see it was only two seasons. Seems a lot of the good ones end too soon. Hoping it will get picked up again.

Weak script, shallow charicatures this is among the worst of Australian television. Packed to the Rafters started weak and built up strong believable characters who had depth and were genuinely funny. Aftertaste starts weak and gets worse with unbelievable situations (e.g. Stumbling into the Woodduck camp) which leave little for the actors to develop. Lazy, formula script with some ok acting.
  • I loved it, not to mention it was filmed around where I live, so that was charming. However I loved the script, many laugh out loud giggles, loved the characters. People seem critical of the bad language (reminiscent of Gordon Ramsay so suitable for an entitled famous Chef) but it didn't bother me. The pace was good, it rollicked along without getting stuck. Loved the food ideas especially Diana's fabulous dessert ideas. Marvellous. Someone criticised the restaurant not being up to code or the kitchen not havjbg stainless steel benches. Calm down. Don't take it all so seriously. It's good fun, just go with it!
  • This rubbish show left a nasty taste, with bad acting, bad script, bad casting ....just all around bad! How could these good actors soar like eagles with a turkey of a script and storyline. Please pass me the alkaseltzer!
  • Kudos Rachel Griffiths for another great local show. So glad to have your talent back home. Love the characters. Natalie Abbott as Diana is a find and sure the content will offend some but the no filter language and droll reaction of other characters is too funny. Loving it

I've watched four episodes now. And it doesn't get any better. The star is full of nothing but cruelty and meanness. There's nothing pleasant or comedic in this whole show. The chef is mental. His father is just off the charts bad. His sister treats his niece like she's garbage. And the rest of the supporting cast isn't worth mentioning.
  • Quite a funny series. Love the premise of the show and the location is a brilliant twist. The acting is mostly first rate with just a couple of exceptions. I found the frequent swearing really amusing. It works well in a show about a damaged, egotistical, uptight chef.
  • I expected better for Eric Thomsen - he deserved a much better role than this. This series is just awful, on every level. Thomsen is believable as an a-hole but the remaining characters ring false and the story line is just plain silly and cringe-worthy at times. Give this one a pass.

Well, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I sat down to watch Season 1 of this show, but it was very good. I've always been an Erik Thomson fan and he's very good in this comedy setting, as the arrogant buffoonish chef. He's got a tremendous way of delivering lines and not losing the dryness and irony of the humour.

The supporting cast are also very good, especially Natalie Abbott, who I was not familiar with before watching this show.

Season 2 has actually been even better than Season 1, with the addition of Lynette Curran, as the siblings long-lost mother, being a big plus. She's very funny.

    Worth watching!

Was so disappointed in this show. Had so much potential, forced acting, lousy script, too much unnecessary swearing, just a big let down !
