Although Peacemaker and Adebayo are at odds, the team must kill the cow before the aliens can finish its teleportation.

The team go after the Butterflies at the ranch, and Chris is presented with a choice between saving humanity and bringing it peace. Leota tries to apologize to Chris for betraying him on Amanda's orders, Join breaks a leg, and Eagly betrays the mission at a critical juncture.—Gislef

John drives the team to the ranch in the vet van, and Leota tries to apologize to Chris. Chris and Vigilante make farting noises so they don't have to listen to her, and Chris finally yells at her that he thought she was his friend but she set him up to take the fall. Chris insists that he kills for peace, so people like his brother Keith won't have to die. Leota says that she read his file and Keith's death was an accident, and tells him to stop letting it define who he is. Vigilante complains that they're ruining his best time forever.

After John finally pulls over, Emilia motions the team to get out of the van. Leota calls Amanda and asks her to call in the Justice League because they're outgunned, but they have not time to wait because the Butterflies are teleporting the cow out. Amanda puts Emilia in charge, and tells John and Leota to stay back in case anything goes wrong.

Sophie tells Locke and the other hosts to prepare to teleport the Cow before the team arrives.

The team stop in the woods and Leota takes out Chris' helmet. Chris confirms what they all do, and Leota accidentally activates the anti-grav helmet so it floats off before they can use it to plant the sonic boom He suggests that they have Eagly fly over the sonic boom helmet. Eagly finally takes the helmet and flies far away with it, then drops it far off in the woods. Emilia tells them to fan out and search for the helmet.

In the Cow cavern, the hosts set up the teleporter.

As the team split up to search for the helmet, Emilia asks Leota why she decided to come. Leota says that she saw an eagle hug a human, and thought maybe it was a sign to risk her life rather than run in the opposite direction.

Chris is off on his own, and imagines Auggie confronting him. Auggie says that he's in Chris' head, and is the reason Chris kills. Emilia comes by as Chris uses his poison dart blowgun on Auggie, and wonders why he's attacking thin air. She spots the helmet nearby out of sight beneath leaves, and asks Chris to do something else for her.

On Emilia's request, Chris kills a guard with his dart and then takes the guard's uniform to the team. Emilia has John wear it so they can smuggle the helmet in, John reluctantly agrees, puts on the uniform, and then goes in. Fitzgibbon talks to John and asks where he's going, and John says that it's because of the bag he's carrying. The detective accepts that and John continues in. Once inside, John throws up from stress then tells the others via the comms that he can't do it. Emilia assures him that he's doing great and tells him to place the helmet down as low as possible.

John goes down into the cavern and sees the Cow, drops the bag with the helmet, panics, and runs upstairs. Outside, Fitzgibbon confronts John and asks John why he dyed his beard. John says that he thought it made him look younger and more handsome, and thought dying his beard would help him get a girlfriend. However, he was too lazy to do it regularly and used the cheapest brand. The team listen via the comms as John says mostly he thought nobody noticed until recently, when one guy said it to him all the time.

One of the hosts finds the bag.

Fitzgibbon dismisses humans as pathetic and walks off. The host comes out and yells that John put the helmet inside, and Leota starts to activate the walkie in the helmet but drops hers. The hosts charge at John, who runs. As song grabs John and throws him down, Leota finds the walkie in the leaves as the Butterflies swarm John. When Leota activates the sonic boom helmet, it unleashes a blast of sound and startles the Butterflies, who release John. The Butterflies run back to check on the Cow, and when they close enough Leota activates the second charge on the helmet, and then the third charge.

Song, who is outside the blast radius, runs with the others to check on the Cow as John joins the team. The cavern collapses on the Cow, and Chris, Emilia, and Vigilante charge in, guns blazing. They kill dozens of Butterflies, and Chris pulls out his shield to block bullets. Song heads into the cavern, and Emilia tells Chris to kill the Cow while she and Vigilante hold the others off.

Chris falls down the stairs and slides down the shaft.

A Butterfly shoots Vigilante in the back, and he throws a knife into it before collapsing. Emilia is shot and collapses.

Leota, watching through binoculars, tells John that Emilia is down. He wonders what they do, and Leota grabs a pair of revolvers and goes out, firing. John goes after her and trips, breaking his leg. Meanwhile, a Butterfly enters Emilia through her mouth but Leota arrives, pulls it out, and shoots it. She tells Emilia to stay with her, and Emilia tells her to go. John crawls over and tosses Leota one of the Peacemaker helmet.

Donning it, Leota goes into the cavern and tracks Chris on the GPS. Meanwhile, Song finds Chris and frees him from the rubble. He attacks Goff, and Goff pins him to a wall as Leota breaks through the rubble, and she uses the torpedo helmet, slamming into the opposite wall and knocking herself out.

Song tells Chris to stop fighting and follow her. She takes him to the Cow, where Locke is working on the teleporter. Song says that she needs three sets of hands to operate the teleporter, and needs Chris to help her. He wonders why he would help her, and Song explains that they're not doing it for power, but because they took a vow. The Butterflies traveled to Earth from their planet, which has become unlivable. Earth had the habitat they needed, but they discovered humanity was on the same path of destroying the ecosystem so the Butterflies made a vow to make the choices for humanity that they were incapable of making for themselves. Murn didn't agree with their methods, but Song tells Chris that he's one of them in spirit. She thanks Chris for feeding her and showing her kindness, and asks Chris to be the Peacemaker and save help them save Earth.

Chris answers by activating the human torpedo helmet as Leota comes in. and the helmet propels Leota across the room into the Cow, fatally wounding it. When Locke goes for his gun, Chris shoots him dead and then shoots Song. Leota falls out of the Cow's guts, and Chris helps her up and leads her away. The Goff Butterfly crawls out of Song's mouth, and Chris ignores it. He and Leota join Emilia on the surface, and John tending to her. Vigilante joins them, Chris picks Emilia up. The Justice League arrive, and Chris tells them that they're too late and curses them.

The team take Emilia to a health center the next day and the doctors tend to her and John. Vigilante insists that he's fine and then collapses. Chris and Leota talk, and Chris wonders if he just killed the world. She says that he might have, or just gave humanity a chance to make their own choices. Leota asks why he chose not to help them, and Chris says that he knew they'd hurt the team if he agreed. When Leota apologizes for betraying him, Chris merely says that he knows. Leota says that she's going to do the right thing, and Chris tells her that she's his BFF after Eagly.

Leota holds a press conference saying that Chris didn't write the diary, and Chris and Vigilante were working in a deep-cover operation for Project Butterfly, and it's part of a black ops force known as Task Force X, and Amanda has been running it

Vigilante leaves his hospital bed.

Chris watches the press conference in the hospital waiting room, and smiles in pride.

Amanda watches the press conference on her TV, and curses.

The doctor calls Chris to Emilia's room. She says that she knows he's been in the waiting room for her for days, and takes his hand.

A smiling Leota goes home, and she and Keeya kiss.

John goes back to Belle Reve, sets up at his desk, and puts out a photo of the team on his desk.

Judomaster goes to the ranch and looks at the corpses, and cries.

Chris and Vigilante blow up a junker, and laugh.

Emilia goes through rehab after her injuries,

Chris wakes up to find the Goff Butterfly banging on his window. Eagly and Chris go out on the porch, and Chis gives the Butterfly some nutrient. Chris hallucinates Auggie sitting with him, as Eagly brings Chris a dead possum.
