  • Saiju Govinda Kurup headlined two films this year. Gunda Jayan was the first of the two (Antakshari being the second). Directed by Arun Vaiga, this comic caper is reminiscent of Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, but it ultimately isn't with an insane number of twists.

Jayan has retired as a Gunda and is now busy fixing an alliance for his niece despite her objection. But come wedding day, an unusual set of events seem to derail the entire occasion.

Saiju Kurup is one of my favourite actors right now. His range is extensive. His recently released Antakshari was astounding! His versatility knows no bounds. Playing an aging goon is a worthy addition to his list of memorable characters. But the buck stops there because nothing else falls in place (as one would expect). The dialogues aren't witty and clever enough. Films such as these hinge on them especially when the cast includes comic stalwarts such as Johny Antony (reduced to a creep), Sabumon Abdusamad, Hareesh Kanaran, Jaffar Idukki, Siju Wilson, Shabare Esh, Sudheer Karamana among others.

Nevertheless, the twists in the second half make up for the rather disjointed plot. Watching Saiju Kurup's Jayan in a predicament was entertainment enough for me. A light hearted story about misadventures at a wedding.

UGJ was a classic Mollywood comedy filled with many odd and humorous characters.

The twists helped maintain the momentum, nonetheless, it's one of those movies you can forget after watching

    DELICIOUS

-The story was quite fascinating, having an overly anxious uncle and a reluctant bride working at odds with each other.

We were pleasantly entertained throughout the film and also fooled! As always having a big cast kept the show going

-UGJ sent a soft warning on honoring people's choices in marriage or else...🤐

-Arun Vaiga, the director, created a nice ambiance of the wedding venue; the guests and neighbors gave off celebration vibes, we were not bored at all

-The supporting cast did a superb job, they were the ones spicing up the movie more than the lead actors.

A special shout out to Johny Antony, Jaffar Idukki, and the picky photographers😁

    BLAND

-Saiju Kurup had a repetitive facial expression that became tedious to watch

-Most characters were designed in a typical way: there's always the unusual/nosy neighbors, a relative who acts weirdly, and the gossiping wives busy with their household duties.

Would have been more intriguing to see some originality...
  • The movie in question turned out to be a delightful surprise, offering plenty of comedic moments and solid entertainment value. Each of the characters played their roles with conviction, contributing to the overall entertainment of the movie.

Initially, I had anticipated a less amusing experience, but the film exceeded my expectations and left me laughing throughout. The movie in question boasts a highly unpredictable twist element which some what amuses the viewers. Saiju Kurup is well suited for the 'gunda' character like this. All in all, it was a well-executed comedy that succeeded in delivering on its promise of entertainment.
  • A classic clean family entertainer, one that wishes to see in the age of heightened social media upsurge.

A family drama which unfolds in every frame one after the other, never a dull moment or slack. The entire casting is so perfect that one relates with it.

Right from casting to the final editing, this movie is a fun to watch. A nice old age comedy entertainer nicely packaged!

    Kudos to the entire team!
  • All of the actors done a great work, especially jafer idukki and saiju kurup.there unnecessary scene or sensational contents. Technically side and music was also good.
  • Great comedy , known actor and each performed well. Saiju kurup is getting recognized for his comedy as well as his serious acting skills. The story has many funny sequences and the unity of the film unit can be seen at the very end. So don't miss this silent hit.
  • Realistic wedding film.making is good, fantastic casting, sounds are good. Beautiful locations, Saiju kurup acting is well, superb cllmax, realistic family comedy entertainer.
  • A good lighthearted film with good performances.

I did not have high expectations before watching this, but this movie pleasantly surprised me !

The premise, character development, cinematography, score all were top notch - story and screenplay were a bit light and stretched a bit (because the story was so very basic) but good none the less (they didnt try to fit in unnecessary side stories and songs to extend the story - which is commendable)

The performances of all - especially Saiju Kurup, Sudheer Karamana, Sabareesh, Johnny Antony, Vrinda Menon. Nayana as the lead actress was ok and Siju Wilson was a bit over the top (But I guess, maybe it was written that way)

Enough to laugh, nice clean funny film. A real family entertainer. Not at all boring, a must watch for entertainment.ot of surprises, twists and turn and unique in its humour... saiju kurup & jaffer idukki led the way with the credits equally well supported by all other characters. The best thing about the film is the realistic depiction of a village wedding, people and life in a village. Enjoyed the lyrics, song, music and character played by sabareesh varma! It's a wonderful family comedy movie. It keeps engaging throughout. Simple but thoroughly entertaining. Full Family Entertainer. Hilarious from start to finish. Must watch!
