The young Ridley Jones, specialist in ancient cultures and artefacts, wears a fedora hat just like The young Indiana Jones, specialist in ancient cultures and artefacts. One of many plot devices borrowed wholesale from other stories.
Large parts of the plot and many character traits are taken wholesale from Night at the Museum
At different points in the story characters will respond to a question with "it's Ridley's, believe it or not", an obvious riff on the famous Ripley's Believe It Or Not, a museum full of oddities and strange stories much like the museum setting for this show.
Many references to Indiana Jones are used - the fedora is prominent and the whip is occasionally used. Lines are even ripped straight from the films, such as "Snakes! Why'd it have to be snakes?!".
