Not for me. Torture porn

This is not my thing. It's got a good cast and GREAT gore, blood etc but it goes way overboard with the sadistic stuff and that really sucks all of the fun out of it for me. Maybe if it wasn't soooo much it would have been ok but every instance of violence or cool kill has a moment where things just get way too dark and weird. It's unsettling and instead of going for scares and impressive visuals movies like this just want you to see the most depraved things they can think of and again, while I'm sure the Hostel, Human Centipede fans out there will love this movie, it just doesn't work for me.

Gore for gore's sake

As a big fan of Asian cinema I was hoping for a lot from THE SADNESS, but it totally let me down. I get the pandemic storyline, I love the wall-to-wall gore effects and emphasis on practical mayhem, but other than that, this is an entirely hollow experience. The acting is wonky at best and the characterisation rings totally hollow. The attempts at social commentary are heavy handed at best. Worst of all is the gross-out humour, which takes things far too far and leads to this being mean-spirited and unappealing. What I was hoping for was something more like Korea's fine PROJECT WOLF HUNTING, which has the same level of bloodshed but also delivers a thrilling story at the same time. This, it's just gore for gore's sake.

Garbage

Thought it was garbage.

No characters to care for other than the 2d couple. There is no plot, just a set of scenes lurching from one to another that often make no sense. For example the guy rides around a lot on his motorcycle, one minute in the city, then the country, then the city again....

The gore is "Story of Rikki-O" standard. For the most part the VFX is mediocre at best, at worst laughable. There is nothing that makes us flinch or think how did they do that unlike some others say Evil Dead remake (not Rise).

There are no twists or turns, no surprises and a weak ending of zero substance. It's nothing more than a watch once curiosity at best.

I far preferred Project Wolf Hunting to this which I rated 6/10 (again a watch once).

Watch something decent like The Wailing or Spiritwalker or Memoirs of a Murder than this.

Nope, not even close

The gore and excessive brutality was fine but what the author missed from the graphic novel is that it actually had a proper story, characters and a massage being the surface of the horror. This movie is not even close to Gareth Ennis graphic novel Crossed (2010) that was gut wrenching in more ways than just the sheer brutality and depravation. Wasted opportunity via bad script. Eh...

A non official Crossed adaptation

It has everything you want to see if you heard Crossed adaptation, it has the gore, he gore and the gore, it shows no fear to crossing some boundaries too, wich is what you would expect from asian cinema. Sadly, that's all the things I can say in favour of the movie.

The story sucks, is pretty basic and unfilfilling in any way, a problem that Crossed also has since the creators only want to show things that are more and more brutal but without a decent reason why or how the protagonists reacts and why. The acting is good for moments, and really bad for others. The ending is exactly what you would expect, and in this case is such a pitty, it obviously makes sense but it's just lazy, it's pretty rushed and it shows they were short on budget by the end.

For Gorehounds only - if at all

This is your average Zombie outbreak movie following a couple that gets separated on their quest to re-unite - just a lot worse.

The plot could have easily been told in 30-45 Minutes - there is really not a lot happening. There's plenty of dragged out scenes and gore/sadistic torture that makes up the rest. I usually don't mind a bit of gore. But here, it feels like the creators were searching for some cheap excuse to put in all kinds of effects. The torture scenes are obnoxious enough to eventually test the limits of most viewers. The villain is pretty much the only memorable character, although mostly because of his outfit as a businessman, which is in stark contrast to his primitive contribution to the plot.

It almost feels like the creators felt near the end that they would need some kind "clever" plot element - and do so in a sequence that is as unbelievable (if not illogic) as it is dragged out.

The most memorable part is the end credits, which blast some kind of death core track, which is likely indicative of what the creators went for: Too fast and too loud. Well, they nailed the "loud" (aka gore) part, but miserably failed to come up with something fast paced.

a film without a ...

Purpose and lack of a story can only reach a 5 stars maxima from the grumpy old man. So when i give this madness a 4 it must be due to other causes than the plot and the acting...

its a very physical glory gory havelujha horror flick where you have to kill even if youll be killed anyway, spoken in a dialect that at least 5.5 billion earthlings dont understand, the dialouges are meaningless anyway, so it must be the stunts, the blood, and the special effect/ make up departments that hts the wardrums of prevail, and i may acclaim to that. To say its bloody is an understatement, the raw violence and decapitation and other kinds of quatering hasnt been seen since the late 70's, and wouldve overwhelmed even the worst of inquisitional boards of the medeval ages.

So its not a film for kids, its not a halfdorked covid movie for comedy seekers, and , well, its not actually zombies either, nor that its next to anything ive seen lately. They mustve got a outtadated kolli of human blod and plasma, cause the blood is some of the realest ive seen, and the sounds are just a chapter on its own. So if you know your tummy is fragile, and your mind is easy frailed then dont watch. If youre a horly gorly guy outta the narrow spectre called harrowing death fans then have fun, there are lots to devour that could make heavy imprints in adolescents, a bit too much even for the grumpy old man.

Insultingly stupid

Ridiculous film. Gore for the sake of gore isn't horror. This film is literally just as much gore and shock onscreen as possible. Also, all the violence is sexual in nature. It's ridiculous.

A pointless gorefest

Ku bei (2021) or The Sadness is one of the most violent, repulsive and gory films I've ever seen. If you consider it a film in general.

I didn't find it bad, it was quite bold in terms of violence and shock factor. But it was also as empty in terms of emotional engagement as possible.

I'd say that if there was a real actual script involved, this could've been an instant cult classic. All the violence and insanity should've been just a quality background for an engaging story.

This film had no story, only two paper-thin characters, and the pacing was all over the place. It would drag, then jump straight into insane gore, then drag again with questionable social commentary for like 20 minutes. There were no stakes and not a single character to care about, the story managed to start, but never ended in anything meaningful.

The acting was also questionable, but I cannot really compare it to Hollywood acting due to cultural differences (and watching the film with subs).

Overall, the film did impress me with how far they went with violence, but other than that - it's completely empty of any substance.

A Very Hard Movie to Review

This is just gore for gores sake.

If you love gorefest movie's, you will love this movie and rate it highly. If you don't like gorefest movie's, you'll hate it and rate it lower. If you just remember that when looking through reviews, it's super easy to know if you'll like this or not.

Slightly off of the topic of this film; I liked how they included some people wearing masks and most not. And not for any personal reasons, it just gave the movie a real time feel to it because that's our reality now. From now on, you'll always see the "masked people" and vice versa.

I gave the 4 star rating because I'm not personally a fan of Gore movie's but if I were a fan, this one would be a great one.

People keep saying it's not a zombie movie but I would partially disagree. I think a better way of saying it would be, "It's not your traditional zombie movie." You've heard of Office zombies? Everyone blindly and monotonously doing the same things over and over. Point is, I think they're are different kinds of zombies(virus zombies..lol) This is just a new take on them. That's my opinion.

Filmsy and finicky!

Might I pose an interesting question?

Is this merely a creative reinterpretation of the zombie genre, embellished with a few additional elements, or is the narrative intended as a metaphorical reflection of our contemporary society, where the alarming rise of depravity and hyper-violence has regrettably become commonplace?

Or does the film specifically aim to portray the horrifying realities experienced during the COVID pandemic, times when people got too desperate, too out of control all because of the fear and forced segregation from their loved ones and families?

Regardless of the actual intent, I must say that the execution strayed significantly from its planned trajectory, primarily due to a lack of sophistication in the screenwriting. While it is undeniably graphic and saturated with blood, which may delight ardent fans of gore, in my case, I found it to be flimsy and lacking necessary substance.
