It's a PG-rated kids superhero movie - don't judge it as a movie made for adults

There are continuity gaps and characters are flat. It's CGI heavy. Everything is flashy and shiny and lots of stuff blows up. The jokes are intended for a grade-school audience. Not unexpectedly, the kids are smarter than the adults and end up saving the day.

Make some popcorn and spend an evening with your kids. There are worse things in life.

Average

I wanted to love it, being a fan of Owen Wilson, but he has a limited screen presence here. The kids are not the best of actors, and one is not likable. Some scenes demoted this movie from average to mediocre, unfortunately. But there are good parts, and it is fairly enjoyable, especially if you watch it with kids. But seriously, why should there always be a love interest in kids' movies!! I mean 14-year-olds should not be wasting 50% of their time thinking finding love at that age is critical to their survival in their culture. It sickens me such cliches and it adds nothing to the story or movie as a whole. I miss the old kids "coming of age" movies; they had more substance, even the Sci-Fi ones. Nevertheless, I recommend this one for tweens for a family night out.

Watched this with my nephew and it was a cute and funny one-time watch.

It was a little long and dragged out at 104 mins, but we still laughed, albeit at different parts. The story was a bit cheesy, but still watchable. I mean any comedy with Michael Peña and Owen Wilson is going to crack some laughs.

A secret hero

Secret Headquarters (2022) felt like a better version of the Spy Kids movies, because this had a concept that felt like a Spy Kids movie, but it was more entertaining than those movies.

I liked Walker Scobell as Charlie Kincaid and Owen Wilson as Jack Kincaid/The Guard; they had a good father and son dynamic, and you can get behind Charlie Kincaid when his dad must leave to save the day as a hero named The Guard.

There are funny moments and there are good looking effects. The tech and The Guard's hideout look cool with advanced technology that can do things like portals and 3D printing weapons and suits.

The action scenes happen in the 3rd act climax, and it does look cool and there can be funny moments during them. I liked that the kids would use the advanced tech for normal things like baseball, because you know you would have done the same thing if you were a kid finding this kind of stuff.

Secret Headquarters (2022) was a fun and entertaining movie that I can see families coming together and enjoying for a movie night.

Cringy in places

I am a little disappointed with this family movie. The trailer looked great and i love Walker and Owen, especially teaming up in a movie together. They could've actually been related they look + act so similar, sadly this is a bit of a mess.

The story revolves around Owen being a superhero who's kid finds his secret lair. Not really very secret then if a 12 year old can find it.

There are so many clichés and stereotypes it's ridiculous. There's the done to death absent Father, the cringey one-liners and most annoying of all, a stupid romantic sub-plot. Why do we need a romantic interest for a kid of 12? It just felt uncomfortable.

The special fx are Ok and Walker is charismatic as hoped, but sadly he is alone, as even Owen is rusty here. And please stop putting Michael Pena in movies. He's annoying in nearly everything.

I didn't hate this movie, but it was very cringey and poor story telling for most part.

Looking at the ratings, i see younger viewers enjoyed this more and i have to say, i'm not at all surprised, it really is aimed at kids. So maybe ask a kid if it's it's good instead. But IMO it was not up to scratch.

You need a childish brain to enjoy it

Secret Headquarters is somewhat of a reminder of the Spy Kids franchise's secret gadgets and devices and how kids use them against evil forces. Owen Wilson's role, despite being the primary source of all super-powered gadgets and devices, has been adapted for lesser than half the entire duration.

This movie is aimed strictly at children, so to get the most out of it, you have to adapt with a child's mind. Otherwise, you may ignore it.

Visual effects, direction, casting, etc. Were thoroughly worked out according to the script and story. Had this script been written for adults rather than children, it would have attracted a wider audience.

Wish it would've been better...

I thought this was a pretty good idea for a new "superhero" movie but it really didn't pan out that well. If they would have done it better with the story it could've even turned into a franchise. Michael Peña steals the show. He is in my opinion one of the most underrated actors. He can do pretty much any role and make it work. He can be hilarious, evil, serious, dramatic, etc.

Familiar formula, done well

Secret headquarters in a way is nothing new and follows in those movies with a similar plot line. Kid thinks father is a deadbeat. Till kid finds out father is the greatest person to ever live. I like to call that the turbo man effect. Anyway Owen Wilson is jack the father of Charlie who is never there for him. But little does young Charles know his father is actually a superhero. Charlie tries to impress a new girl and his friend Berger brings them round to hangout. Things happen and headquarters is found. Villains find it. In the for of Pena a scientist of all people. There was some pretty fun moments though and overall it was an enjoyable film.

average family movie

A lot of good elements to this movie, in fact, the first 10 minutes promises an exciting movie, but "10 years later" the movie loses it's steam, making the last hour and 45 minutes of viewing mediocre. The kids are annoying, especially the wannanbe Britney Spears girl and OMG, the 2 brothers. The main kid is OK, but spends 90% of the time whining about the fact that his father doesn't spend any time with him. The premise of the movie: an alien orb that provides endless source of energy, the CGI, the bad guys, the father that is a "white bread" version of Batman, and all the "young adults" had the promise of making a great story if the writers, producers, directors had just made a bit more effort. It all seems like a rushed post-Covid family film typical of the streaming Netflix era.

Secret Headquarters

This reminded me a little at the start of "The Hunters" (2013) as some pals discover that the basement of one of their family homes is really a den of technology and superhero-style power packs. It's whilst "Charlie" (Walker Scobell) and his gang of increasingly incredulous chums are exploring that they realise they are not alone in searching for an unique power source that could, of course, change the whole world order. Soon, the two teams are at loggerheads in their race to find it. Can the youngsters fend off their much more aggressive (and grown up) antagonists led by "Argon" (Michael Peña)? It's quite fun to watch this - one of those simple, family sci-fi dramas with adequate visual effects and just a hint of menace before an action-packed denouement that manages to use all the fancy kit. Owen Wilson tops and tails the film as dad "Jack" and though it's a bit on the padded side, it's actually quite a passable drama with a soupçon of humour in the script and I found young Scobell to be quite an entertaining lad to watch.

Not So Secret Headquarters

I rated this movie purely from a moviegoer's perspective. I don't compare it to any other movies, old or new. It's a typical fun action adventure movie, only made a little dumber. I mean, a secret headquarter which only guarded by a 6 digits numerical password? That's not so secretive nor safe. A hacker can break into it in less than a day. Anyway, weak logic aside, this movie still has some pretty exciting action sequences. There was a little dark moment which was not so PG-13, definitely needs parental guidance. My advice for those who hasn't watched it? Don't judge this movie by other raters. They have their own opinions, you have your own. Judge it by yourself. I don't think you'll regret watching it, cause it's not some Sharkanado movie. You get what I'm saying? It's on a higher level intelligence than Sharkanado movies. So you won't see too much stupidities in it.
