Two families rent summer cottages, their 10-year-old children Nana and Niels fall in love but face jealousy, arguments, exploring pre-teen emotional experiences based on 1986 novel by Kaufmann and Hauch.

Two families each rent a summer cottage at Asserbo by the sea. The two 10 y.o.s Nana and Niels meet and fall in love. Teasing, jealousy and arguments, however, bring complications to their summer idyll. TV adaptation of Kaufmann and Hauch's 1986 youth novel and study into pre-teen emotional life.

Nana and Niels are on summer vacation in Asserbo in North Zealand. They come from two different families who have both rented a cottage by the sea. The two 10-year-old children meet on the beach and many strange feelings arise: friendship, enmity and love. Niels comes from a family in the provinces. Here, the father calls the shots and everything is in a very fixed framework. Nana lives in Copenhagen. She is on vacation with her father and mother, who are both teachers and divorced. Still, they are able to spend their summer vacation together. Meeting Nana will mean a lot to Niels.
