    4/10
    Poor
How did this so called "Movie" ever get a rating of 8.2? Which it had when i 1st noticed it. I normally give any movie about 20 minutes to "Draw me in", & if it's not absorbing my interest by then it's not going to. I gave this over 30 minutes as i assumed it could be great with this rating, but certainly watchable.

NOPE! After 30 minutes i don't have a clue what it's about, it's not funny, there is no-one interesting in it, it's bland , uninteresting, so so actors, but most of all, absolutely NOTHING that would hold your attention.

I only download movies that have a 5 rating or higher, as below that are always awful, so i can only give it a 4 , as in my view it's unwatchable. Disjointed mess with zero story to hold it together & uninteresting bland characters & just pointlessly boring.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

    Warning: Spoilers
Director and writer Frank Martinez has put together a Hollywood filled with bad cops, drug dealers, prostitutes and social rejects. Ray Balfi (Turk Matthews) is an ex-con trying to get his cartoon made but deals with rejection after rejection. But what happens when a new movie is made from it without his participation?

Now Ray is out for revenge, the kind of getting even that is punctuated by music video sequences. Seeing as how he has no idea who has taken his work for him - after all, he sent the script to a hundred studios - that means that a whole lot of people have to pay.

Originally known as Fade Out Ray, I've seen this movie compared to everyone from Tarantino to the Coen Brothers, Kubrick, Wes Anderson and Pedro Almodovar, which feels like people were just reaching for directors and film styles to compare this to. As for me, I have no such comparisons or limitations that I want to put on Martinez, who really pushed himself to make something unique for a first film.

Dreaming Hollywood is available from Cleopatra Entertainment on all VOD platforms and will also be available on blu ray, along with a soundtrack CD, featuring the music of DMX and Onyx.
  • Unbelievably terrible, good luck if you watch it all, must be all fake reviews as usual... Do not waste your time. Bad actors, no story a total disaster a total disgrace.
  • Crime, yet psychotic, humorous. But not unbelievable. Dark but not over done.

    2 hours went by fast.

Thought the lead guy Matthews did a great job. Look forward to see what he does next.
  • Warning: Spoilers
In the beginning it's slow weird quirky with a little humor added. Some overacting but its obviously intentional and and something you can laugh at. It picks up midway with the character Ray Balfi (which is a comical name in itself) finding out his script was stolen, chaos ensues. Ray is determined to find out who did it!!!!!!! Overall I would recommend watching this but try not to take it too seriously its a fun interesting film.
  • Enjoyed this movie and appreciate films like this are still being made. Too many lazy reboots, remakes and remanufactured garbage comes out of Hollywood these days. I respect those who put their own hard earned money and time into making this film come to be. Screw the haters giving this a bad review.
  • This is a deadpan comedy in the tradition of Get Shorty and The Big Lebowski, attempting a Tarantino-like weave, but it's rough on the edges and falls short of what it could be with a better lead. Turkey Mathews was okay as the antihero, but lackluster and, even though that's sort of what the role called for, I found him pretty boring. There are some subtleties that are fun to take in, counterbalanced by unnecessary scenes that made this a pretty long movie. Weakly recommended.
  • Turk Matthews came through with a performance reminiscent of Michael Douglas in Falling Down. A man gets everything he ever wanted taken away and exacts his revenge on the world. If Ray was in every scene the movie would have been better.
  • I saw this movie a while back at a private screening, before covid. This movie has so many hilarious moments. There are even a few musical moments, with dancing. It's so odd how they were able to mix the violence with the comedy.

I'm so glad to hear this movie is getting more buzz.
  • Dreaming Hollywood was very entertaining and witty. It was well worth my time. My 19 year old son really liked it as well.
  • Great movie. Loved poor loser Ray and all the other colorful characters he came across in his quest to find whoever stole his film. The original music was great too. I want to play in L. A.
  • Imagine if the Coen Brothers and Quentin Tarantino were quarantined together for the summer in a remote abandoned trailer park haunted by the ghost of Stanley Kubrick. I'm sure their days would be crazy ... but their dark nights would be spent Dreaming Hollywood. The kind of nightmare you'll want to wake from, but once you do, you'll desperately want to go back into it for more.
  • Once I started watching this movie I couldn't keep my eyes off of it wondering what was going to happen next! This movie has the perfect combination of humor, action, mystery, suspense, and originality! Great music as well.
  • Really enjoyed this movie when i saw it at a screening not too long ago. It was funny and quirky but at the same time it had a lot to analyze and a lot of deep concepts. I loved the use of color and lighting and i think that really pulled some of the scenes together. Super charming movie. 10/10 recommend.
  • I enjoyed this movie full of colorful characters and creative storytelling.
  • Making anything is not easy. Yet this team was able to make an engaging, cinematic, fully produced movie.

Bravo! Your directing, acting, cinematography and overall movie was top notch. Keep it up.
  • Saw this at the Erie International Film Festival. Great mix of Coen Bros dialogue with occasional bursts of violence and music. The characters are hilarious!

So hard to describe this film. Strange journey, but so worth seeing.

This movie was excellent . A must see! Story was great as was the acting.
  • Very cinematic and fun ride. Great premise as well.

Very creative, flawed, relatable fun characters to follow.

Do not mess with Ray Balfi!!!!!!

I love Pedro Almodovar's movies and this one felt like an awesome Almodovar movie. So cinematic, it makes you wanna chew the screen.

Bravo to the director and team!!! More please.
  • I was able to see this at a screening for The Erie International Film Festival (where it won The Audience Award.) This movie is so well written, shot and acted that you would think it had a huge budget. It creates it's own universe with dark humor, great characters richly written and a fantastic soundtrack. It feels to me like a potential cult classic that would warrant future viewings.
