I started the Beatles Anthology series a while back, but was really disappointed by the first episode. Took me a while but I'm back to it now, and this second episode is slightly better. Maybe it helps that they're now covering albums, or maybe I just knew what to expect this time around. As a documentary, I feel like so far, the Anthology series has been lacking. There's very little narrative or anything by way of pacing. This was worse in Part 1, but is still pretty meandering in this second part.
So I have to try and appreciate what it is, and it's now apparent that it just isn't interested in being much of a traditional documentary series. I loved some of the performances and bits of archival footage I hadn't seen before in this installment, while other stretches of it just went on and on, and really could've been trimmed. It's sometimes exciting, and sometimes very tedious. I'm a quarter of the way through now, so I guess I'll get to the other episodes at some point, but I still feel a bit torn on this series so far.
