Metallica finally brought “Enter Sandman” to Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium — 25 years after it became a school tradition as the Hokies’ game-day hype intro.
Since 2000, the iconic metal song has blared from the loudspeakers as the Virginia Tech football team takes the field on game days, becoming a school tradition in the process. Metallica have been well aware of the song’s significance in Blacksburg, once paying tribute to legendary Va. Tech coach Frank Beamer in a video message that was played before his last game nine years ago.

At last, Metallica themselves made their way to Blacksburg for a concert at Lane Stadium on Wednesday (May 7th) as part of their ongoing “M72 Tour.”
The special gig opened with an intro that simulated the football team’s walkout, with a recording of “Enter Sandman” sending the crowd into a frenzy, as captured in audience footage.

Metallica will revisit their 1996 album Load with a remastered reissue that includes a “Super Deluxe” edition that clocks in at 30 hours, much of it unreleased music.
Out June 13 via their Blackened Records, the Load reissue will be released as a remastered 2Lp, CD, and cassette, as well as an expanded 3Cd version. Both the 2Lp and 3Cd versions feature the album closer “The Outlaw Torn” unedited for the first time, as time constraints forced the track to be cut short on the original 78-minute-and-59-second-long album.

Metallica played their first show of 2025 on Saturday night (April 19th), performing a career-spanning set at the Jma Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York.
They Syracuse concert was one of several single-night-only shows on this spring North American run (tickets available here), as opposed to the “no repeat weekends” they’ve been playing over two nights in most cities on this ongoing “M72 World Tour.” That meant that fans at Saturday’s gig got elements of both sets in one night.

Metallica’s 16-song set represented nine of their 10 studio albums, as they played songs from every studio LP except 2003’s St. Anger.
Frontman James Hetfield and company launched the set with a 1-2 punch from 1984’s Ride the Lightning: “Creeping Death” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” The band played three songs from 1991’s self-titled effort, aka “The Black Album,” including “Nothing Else Matters,...

Matt Sampere’s Creeping Death is a low-budget, questionably executed horror thriller film that attempts to trace the birth of Halloween. It is an ambitious project where unfortunately none of the elements worked out. The acting is subpar, the story has loopholes, and the tropes are old and repetitive. Tim lived with his father and ailing mother. Linda had been diagnosed with cancer, and the last three years had been challenging for the family. Tim’s father, Fred, was a paramedic, and he had immense work pressure on Halloween. He asked Tim to stay home with Linda, and his son obliged. Instead of attending the Halloween party he was invited to, Tim decided to spend a quiet night at home. But all of a sudden, his friends showed up carrying a sack. Upon opening it, they found the remains of a dead dog. They had stolen the sack from an old man’s house,...

Screambox is back in September with lots of new additions to their catalogue of horror films. We are getting a paranormal series featuring Linnea Quigley, a film that stars JoJo Siwa and a Screambox exclusive that deals with Halloween’s Celtic history.
September 3:
#Amfad: All My Friends Are Dead – Jojo Siwa stars in the story of a group of college friends who plan to attend a music festival. When they find an Airbnb that seems to good to be true, it is, as they discover when someone starts killing them off. Marcus Dunstan directed, and he is responsible for two great cult favorites, The Collector and The Collection.
September 10:
Creeping Death – “While trying to enjoy a peaceful Halloween with his mother, Tim is paid a visit by his rambunctious up-for-anything friends.” It turns out the friends have been doing a bit of Halloween pranking, and one of those pranks broke a Halloween tradition.

Metallica kicked off the North American leg of their 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” on Friday (August 4th) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band was joined on the bill by fellow metal legends Pantera and rising rockers Mammoth Wvh (led by Wolfgang Van Halen).
The tour (get tickets here) features Metallica performing two completely unique sets (no repeat songs) over two nights in each city, with different support acts each evening. They’ll be right back at MetLife on Sunday (August 6th), with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills opening.
The setup has the bands performing in the round, on a circular stage in the middle of the stadium, with some fans in the “Snakepit” (the center of the circle).
While there was a forecast for thunderstorms on Friday night, that never came to be, making for a comfortable summer evening in New Jersey.
