This show was originally planned for Maple Leaf Gardens, a venue often used by the WWF at the time. However, for the night they wanted to hold this event, Maple Leaf Gardens wasn't available, and the only available venue for them was Exhibition Stadium (the then-home of MLB's Toronto Blue Jays and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts). They went ahead and held the event here, deciding to open up and sell as many tickets as can fit in the stadium, and were quite surprised of the number of tickets that were sold.
Jake "the Snake" Roberts and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat were in a feud at this time, and were both carrying reptiles to the ring with them (Robert's usual snake, plus Steamboat's Kimono dragon). However, neither one did at this event because neither one could get their respective reptile across customs into Canada.
The attendance at this event was the inspiration for Vince McMahon to hold WrestleMania III in a large stadium.
Due to the size of the crowd and lack of video screens in the stadium, the ring was propped up about 2-3 feet higher than usual to help the crowd get a better view of the action.
