  • From Randy Spears' occasional forays as film director, I know of his foot fetishism, but was surprised at his experimental approach to "The Making of a MILF". It's hardly a great or important work, but he tried for something different and succeeded.

Tasked with filming five sex vignettes on the subject of sex with a MILF, Spears decided to integrate the immediate preparation (before actual shooting) into the film proper. So we have him chat on a couch with each sex couple before shouting Action!, discussing what he wants and then shooting it. The vignettes on a Penthouse feature are only nominally of story content and this is one time the director recognized that fact and didn't try to snow the audience.

One exception (on purpose) is when Randy himself dons his other hat as performer and has sex with Holly Sampson. He pretends that this is just an off-the-cuff casting couch style audition not being filmed but we watch it anyway, equivalent to all the other scenes.

Self-conscious filmmaking like this always holds interest, and is a bastion of modern documentaries like those of Michael Moore. It's also, in a different way, the medium of choice for popular gonzo practitioners like John Stagliano and Jules Jordan. Spears demonstrates here that it can transform wall-to-wall sex into something approximating a real work, not art but at least craftsmanship on display.
