Zach Anner came to national attention back in 2010 when he participated in Oprah Winfrey's Your Own Show contest by releasing a video stating the reasons he should be the next big thing in TV. Anner has cerebral palsy, and he quickly became an Internet favorite. Despite our fervent support, Anner didn't win Oprah's contest; however, that's not stopping him from rolling along. Anner has released the first episode of Riding Shotgun, in which Anner, his brother, and two of their friends go on a road trip across the Us (and Canada). Reddit will play a big role in Riding Shotgun. The show has its own subreddit, where fans previously voted for the cities they wanted Anner to visit during his trip. After Anner picked out eight choices from the nominees, fans were then encouraged to post the highlights of their favorite cities so that Zach would know what...

Zach Anner might have missed his chance at fame when his show, "Rollin' With Zach," was cancelled from Oprah Winfrey's Own television network last year after just six episodes. Now, Zach is back with a new Reddit-powered travel show -- and he wants you to ride shotgun.
"Riding Shotgun With Zach Anner" is a new web series starring Anner, a comedian with cerebral palsy who pokes fun at his condition in his comedic bits. Reddit users will have the chance to pick eight cities where Anner will travel over the course of six weeks. Submissions will be accepted through Monday, July 23, at midnight via the official Zach Anner subreddit.
"I want to make a travel show that encapsulates all the awesomeness of the Reddit community," Anner wrote to Reddit users for his "Ask Me Anything" jaunt. "I want to incorporate your unique perspectives and experiences. And I want you...

Zach Anner won over the Internet as he campaigned for a slot on the Oprah Winfrey Network's "Your Own Show" reality competition, then won over Oprah herself as he took home the title. Now, it's time for the rest of America to fall in love with the Texan.
"Rollin' With Zach" follows the 27-year-old comedian, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair to get around, as he pursues his dream of traveling the country. In addition to your typical sightseeing activities, he also goes rappelling and rides one of those crazy amusement park carousel/swing things that are way scarier than they look.
"For a guy who has cerebral palsy, I never thought I'd be doing this," he says.
Aside from his breezy, natural sense of humor, you can tell Anner is up for anything based on the sheer quantity of spandex and sequins he dons in the two-minute preview.

Oprah Winfrey has been described as having "mixed feelings" over Your Own Show host Carson Kressley's upcoming appearance on Dancing with the Stars. The media mogul is said to have seen how Kressley's participation in the popular ABC competition could help her struggling Own network, despite her alleged aversion to "desperate" and "foolish" reality TV formats. "Oprah has very mixed feelings about reality TV," a source told The Huffington Post. "A few years ago, when she was doing her own show, she didn't care for it at all. "Manipulating people who are so desperate to be famous and making then look foolish on TV is just not something she is (more)...

In its first upfront presentation since its Jan. 1 launch, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced the pickup of 6 new unscripted series and the renewal of 4 existing shows. The announcement didn't include the most anticipated new OWN series, an Oprah Winfrey show, which will launch in September, after the end of her syndicated talk show. The network is yet to share details about it, though it is expected to be a talk show. OWN has been slow out of the gate, barely outperforming the channel it replaced, Discovery Health. One of the most heavily promoted first new series, Your OWN Show, flopped, and Oprah Presents Master Class has underperformed. But the network found early success with Our America with Lisa Ling, the first OWN series to get renewed, and Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes. The Judds also had a promising premiere on Sunday. Joining Our America on the list of renewed...

One of Own's two highest-rated series, Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes, is moving from Fridays to Sundays beginning April 27, where it will be paired with Oprah Winfrey's Master Class. Behind the Scenes has been airing on Fridays with reality competition Your Own Show, which recently wrapped its low-rated run. With Master Class' companion on Sunday, series of specials Ask Oprah's All Stars, also gone, Own's two series featuring Winfrey, Behind the Scenes and Master Class, will now run together on Sundays. Own will go down from four to three nights of original programming - Monday, Tuesday and Sunday. When Master Class ends its season, it will be succeed by The Judds, a reality series starring Naomi and Wynonna Judd, which will premiere April 10. Own, which has been slow out of the gate, has two solid ratings performers, Behind the Scenes and Our America with Lisa Ling, which...

The Oprah Winfrey Network's first competitive reality series, Your Own Show, ended its low-rated first (and thus probably last) season on Friday night with predictable ending: Oprah refused to pick between the two finalists, Zach Anner and Kristina Kuzmic-Crocco. Own already lets viewers see Oprah in a light like never before, but now they'll be able to see it in high definition.
That's right, those who have relegated themselves to watching standard definition versions of episodes of hits like "Your Own Show," "Our America with Lisa Ling," and "Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes" will have to wait no more. Well, unless you don't have Dish Network.
Beginning Thursday, March 3rd, Dish is adding Own to it's line-up of high definition channels. You can find it on Channel 189 (if your subscription includes their hi-def offerings, of course.).
"We are thrilled that Dish Network is making Own available in HD," said Allan Singer, Evp, distribution & strategy, Own: Oprah Winfrey Network. "Many viewers have contacted us eager to watch Own in HD, and now with the help of Dish Network, we are able to fulfill their request and continue serving our audience.

Zach Anner’s journey to winning his very own show on Oprah’s Own cable television network and soon becoming the Winfrey of Generation Next hadn’t quite begun in 2008 in a convention hall at SXSW in Austin, Texas with an interview from yours truly about Anner’s mockumentary web series, but I’m mentioning all that as a selfish way for me to be able to say, “I knew the guy when...” Anner’s journey from Austin-based comic to cable television host actually began in June 2010 when he uploaded a video submission to be a contestant on the reality TV program Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star. 4Chan, Reddit, Jon Mayer, and then the internet at large almost immediately endorsed the video and championed Mayer as their feel-good TV host of the future. Your Own Show included a series of elimination tests, all of which Anner obviously aced,...

On Tuesday, Own: Oprah Winfrey Network will mark one month on the air. The network, which on Jan.1 replaced Discovery Health amidst a wave of publicity, is still work in progress, Own CEO Christina Norman admits, but says it is on track to achieve its first-year ratings goals. To help do that, Own is doubling the number of new series offerings for February from the planned 2, Our America with Lisa Ling and What Would You Do, an acquisition from ABC News, to 4, including Searching For..., which stars investigative genealogist Pam Slaton and Breaking Down the Bars, which follows eight inmates in a women's prison in Indiana. At its launch, Own introduced 7 new series. Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes, which follows the final season of Winfrey's syndicated show, has been the most successful one, more than tripling what Discovery Health used to average in the slot. But the other two shows carrying Winfrey's name,...

Your Own Show: Oprah's Search for the Next Big Star is a weird show. It's The Apprentice plus Hgtv's Design Star, with the charm of neither show, nor does it have any of Oprah Winfrey or her philosophy. Which Came First — The Chicken Or The Gay Dad?
Last week Out magazine published the results of their Love and Sex Survey and one of the most notable results was the very large generation gap between gay men on the subjects of gay marriage and having children.
While only 51% of those aged 36 to 45 want to get married, 80% of those 18 to 25 want to do so. The gap is even bigger when it comes to having children. While a whopping 70% of those under the age of 25 want little bundles of joy, only 31% of those over 25 are interested in changing diapers. Even though this is Out's first time doing this survey, I'd wager that even ten years ago, the gap wouldn't have been nearly so large.
Coincidentally — or not — this week saw the debut of USA's Fairly Legal, yet another show which includes an out gay man who is a dad. This comes...

Of all the shows coming up on Own, the one that screams “become obsessed with me!” is definitely Your Own Show. The who-wants-to-be-the-next-Oprah series taps into some of the best parts of reality contest shows: The contestants are vivacious and well-matched, and the ability to host a show is one we can all easily judge. Sure, it’s a lot of people kissing Oprah’s butt, and it gets a liiiiitle bit schlocky. But! There’s something so upbeat and loving about everyone trying to be their best selves, etc etc.

Ten people have eight weeks to become Oprah. But no pressure!
Oprah Winfrey launched "Your Own Show" because, in her words, she "wants to give somebody else the chance that was given to me over 25 years ago." Executive producers Mark Burnett, along with hosts Nancy O'Dell and Carson Kressley ("I'm Suze Ormond," quipped Kressley) stopped by the TCA Press Tour on Thursday to introduce the 10 contestants.
One of the contestants, Zach Anner, has been the subject of some controversy due to some of the online voting, but Burnett impresses upon us that that controversy shouldn't overshadow the winner of the online poll. "The true web celeb is Dr. Tony Roach," he says, referring to one of the contestants, a minister who looks to spread a message of self-esteem. "Because he won the online poll to find his place within the past. I can't really even remember what the issue was.

Hollywoodnews.com: Oprah Winfrey welcomed 2011 by launching her eagerly anticipated Own Network and, so far, the critics are being kind.
Critic Alessandra Stanley wrote in the NY Times that the new network “was most striking for what it lacked: nowhere in that opening gush of feel-good highlight reels, self-improvement plans, spiritual quests, aha! moments, celebrity master classes, and people finding their truths and living their own best lives was there a snicker of malice or a hint of raillery.”
Own, Stanley continued, is “a place where cynicism takes a holiday and mockery hasn’t yet been invented.”
That sounds very much in tune with the tone of Winfrey’s long-running, beloved daytime talk show, which frequently promoted but only occasionally probed.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
After seemingly endless announcements and preparation, Oprah Winfrey kicks of 2011 with the launch of The Oprah Winfrey Network.
And as the king-making media empress tries to clarify in her introductory hour, "Oprah's Guide to Own," she is not here to waste your time. She wants her new block of original programming to serve a purpose in your life.
Being Oprah, she's going to get a lot of this right. But so far, there are a few docu-series that seem like they could be a tad misguided -- in the inadvertently hilarious way.
Shows like "In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman," a cartoonishly awkward sex rehab program for middle-aged couples. We haven't seen an episode, per se, but if Oprah's extended preview is telling, it could become required viewing.

Oprah Winfrey's network has begun not with a bang but with redeclared purpose by the Queen of Daytime for her new round-the-clock cable channel venture. After years in the planning and months of hype, the moment of launch on Saturday at 12 noon Est was rather quiet.Buried in the middle of a holiday weekend (though boasting the numerically catchy date 1-1-11), The Oprah Winfrey Network, or Own for short, arrived free of glitz with a one-hour preview special hosted by Winfrey, host of the syndicated "The Oprah Winfrey Show." She offered a hearty overview of the live-your-best-life fare she will curate across the network's schedule in the days ahead and further down the line. The strategy seemed that of a soft opening, aimed at whetting viewers' appetites so they regularly come back and sample the network's expanding menu of new shows as they roll out."...

At age 3, Nancy O’Dell‘s daughter Ashby Grace is already learning to hold her own with her two big brothers.
“Ashby is so tough,” says O’Dell, 44, who also has stepsons Tyler, 15, and Carson, 10, with husband Keith Zubchevich.
“She can always defend herself at school because she has to do it at home. She’s not a fragile flower!”
She’s also managed to change her night owl mom into an early bird.
“I used to so not be a morning person,” says O’Dell, who is promoting the Morning Squeeze video contest sponsored by Florida Orange Juice.

New York, New York, (X17online) - Oprah Winfrey's first major promotion spot for the launch of her new Own Network will premiere in theaters across the country starting today. The song featured in the background of the new promo is actually a bonus track on the new Black Eyed Peas album The Beginning featuring the voice of Will.i.am. The entertainer created the song especially for Oprah after he spoke with Own CEO Lisa Erspamer who was looking for a theme song for Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star. The theater ad is only part of a multimillion-dollar campaign that will also expand to billboards, including one in Times Square and one on the Sunset Strip, TV, print ads, radio and the Internet, according to The New York Times. Own: The Oprah Winfrey Network is set to launch Jan. 1.

Nancy O'Dell was pulling for her would-have-been partner on "Dancing With the Stars" this season -- but she's not surprised at the outcome of Tuesday's finale.
O'Dell was set to be a contestant on Season 8 of "Dancing" in the spring of 2009. But she blew out her knee less than a week before the season started and had to drop out.
"I love the show," O'Dell tells Zap2it. "I've always been a fan, and the time when I was going to compete on it was just great. It was disappointing, because I had rehearsed for three and a half weeks before I shredded the meniscus in my knee, which wound up requiring surgery. It was very frustrating for that to happen literally half a week before the show was to debut."
O'Dell's partner would have been Tony Dovolani, and she was pulling for him and Audrina Patridge this season. "I'm always pulling for Tony,...
