I’ve said this before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but it is something that always bears repeating- Wes Craven was a filmmaker that was ahead of his time. Throughout most of his career, the maven director was always about two steps ahead of everyone else- whether it was where the genre happened to be at during that given time, the types of films that Hollywood was making, or sometimes, even ahead of the fans themselves.
And while he continued to push the boundaries of horror time and time again from the 1970’s through the early 1990’s, perhaps the biggest indication of Craven’s genius as a forward-thinking storyteller has to be the Scream quadrilogy which not only redefined slasher movies but also redefined his career as well. Very few directors get a chance to directly affect the genre as a whole but Craven did so...

A big part of many successful horror films and horror film franchises is a mask that disguises the killer’s identity. The mask is often just as iconic as the killer. A good mask lends an extra layer of intrigue to the killer’s persona and gives him or her a sense of anonymity. The mask also serves to distance the killer from their victims and makes the maniac seem even less human. The mask makes it more difficult for the killer to emote, thereby making the character seem that much more mysterious. An effective mask makes a killer much more terrifying to audiences. To celebrate some of the more memorable masks in horror cinema history, we've put together a list of eleven of the most iconic masks worn by on-screen psychopaths. [Warning: Some Spoilers Ahead] Mrs. Tredoni’s Mask from Alice, Sweet Alice Mrs. Tredoni was so wicked in Alice, Sweet Alice and...

Most Scream fans would admit Scream 4 was a disappointment [1]. It had its moments, the seeds of some great ideas, but it didn't come close to living up to the promise of the 1997 original. Thankfully, fans can now look back fondly at the first three films in the series with Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, a new documentary by Ryan Turek, the managing editor of ShockTillYouDrop.com. It's your basic, talking-head documentary, not unlike what you'd expect to find as an extra on any Blu-ray worth its retail price. But, unlike a studio produced piece, Still Screaming contains some real honesty about what the franchise did right and what it did wrong while providing a slew of new information. The film falls short of being truly "ultimate" due to some noticeable interviewee absences and a few other odd moments, but the core of the film will delight not only Scream fans,...

A year ago, more or less, I joined forces with producer Anthony Masi to write and direct Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective , a look at the making off the Scream trilogy and its impact on the genre. The hope was to get it onto DVD by the time Scream 4 hit theaters. Alas, shit happens and we didn't make that deadline, although we did have a Los Angeles premiere on the evening before Scream 4 's release. Since then, Still Screaming was delivered to the mighty Miramax who - through their DVD distribution partnership with Lionsgate Home Entertainment - are releasing the doc on Blu-ray Tuesday, September 6. Where can you find it? Well, you see, Miramax/Lghe packaged the doc in a four-disc Scream Blu-Ray collection. You'll find Scream: The Inside...

Ryan Turek, Editor-in-Chief of Shock Till You Drop and good chum of ours, has been hard at work. Between his upcoming Hellraiser doc and his Scream documentary, Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, debuting, this is a gent who hasn’t let any grass grow under his feet.
And we were lucky enough to jabber with him, at great length, about the weird, wild experience of turning the Scream franchise’s story into an engaging feature film, featuring Wes Craven, Neve Campbell, Liev Schreiber, Henry Winkler, Matthew Lillard, Jamie Kennedy, Laurie Metcalf, Parker Posey, Scott Foley and many others.
I think we’ll take the “On:” format for this one. Cool?

“Obviously the first Scream definitely held a lot of strength in my eyes. I was there in film school, New York, in ’96 when it first came out.

At long last Scream 4 opens today, so chances are you're in a mood for some Ghostface-inspired mayhem. God (or Wes Craven) knows we are. So last night FEARnet hosted the premiere of Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective at West Hollywood's Laemmle Sunset 5 Theater. Check out our exclusive video coverage of the horror star-studded event after the jump. Before the screening I caught up with the documentary's writer-director Ryan Turek and producer Anthony Masi for a quick chat, and FEARnet's fearless Natalie Pohorski spoke with some of the many Scream-loving horror luminaries in attendance, folks like Hatchet director Adam Green and Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch, as well as actress P.J....

Earlier this week, FEARnet announced (and we re-posted) that the premiere of Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective would be held at the Sunset 5 in Los Angeles on April 14 at 10pm. You can still RSVP for the event if you're in the area. To keep the momentum going, with Scream 4 on the way, I thought I'd leak out a 36-second clip from the Scream 3 chapter of the documentary. Here you'll find editor Patrick Lussier and Ehren Kruger talking about the various opening sequences that were considered in the third film's writing stage. Kruger goes into a bit of detail about what Kevin Williamson originally had in mind...

In addition to operating Shock Till You Drop, I used my free time to write and direct a feature-length retrospective on the Scream franchise called: Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective . The project is done . It's in the studio's hands, an hour and 45 minute-look at the making of the entire Scream trilogy featuring various cast and crew members as well as never-before-seen pics. And since Scream 4 is just around the corner, I thought it was time for a world premiere. Our friends at FEARnet are hosting said event and they've just posted the a trailer - making its debut for the first time. This doc has been a labor of love and, thanks to producer Anthony Masi, I've been able to make it happen. So, if you're in the Los Angeles area next Thursday, April...

An official Facebook page was launched for the hotly anticipated Scream documentary Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, which is set for DVD/Blur-ray release in April to coincide with the release of Scream 4.
Written and directed by Ryan Turek, the doc covers the first three films and will take you inside the lives of both the actors and director Wes Craven’s life while shooting the series. The feature will also include a fictional tie-in along with rare archival footage, never-before-seen photos, new on-set stories, and will reveal the entire success of Scream from its inception right up to the new movie.
Released in 1996, Scream was a major commercial success and won praise for giving new life to the horror genre with its tongue-in-cheek approach and satirical references to the conventions of slasher flicks. The blockbuster spawned the subsequent two sequels (released in 1997 and 2000, respectively), with each...
