- Swallowing his pride, Hugo asks Balagan for help. Walt, Hugo's police mentor, is retiring, but one unsolved case still haunts him. Twenty years ago, a teen girl disappeared and Walt is convinced her ex-boyfriend, Stephen, killed her. But because the girl's body was never found, Walt could never charge Stephen. Now with Balagan's help, Hugo hopes to find the one piece of evidence that will put Stephen behind bars before Walt takes matters into his own hands. Pippa comes to Balagan with some startling news in Rosemary's case: the police have finally arrested a suspect.—Anonymous
- Walt Varga, a friend of Hugo's on the police force, is days away from retirement. But Hugo knows he is still preoccupied with a twenty year old cold case of a missing late teen-aged girl named Kim Sharland. Walt is certain that a man named Steven Abramyk - who has since changed his name to Steven MacDonald - abducted her, the two who were dating at the time of her disappearance. Circumstantial evidence does point to Steven having killed Kim after a party where Kim apparently had an argument with the volatile Steven, who was kicked out of the party. Kim's sweater, stained with her blood, was later found at the riverside site where the argument took place. As such, Walt has hounded Steven for the past twenty years. Hugo is afraid that Walt will take the law into his own hands after he retires, and asks Arkady to help him and Walt solve the case. Arkady agrees, with the terms of his hefty "fee" - a favor of Arkady's choice - to be disclosed later. When Arkady interviews those who have a stake in the case, most believe Steven did kill Kim, including Steven's daughter Maisie MacDonald. But Steven professes his innocence. If Arkady can find out where Kim stormed off to after the party, he may be able to find out exactly what happened. Meanwhile, Det. Evans has some new information regarding Rosemary's murder. And Arkady has a running feud with Chef George, the hotel's pastry chef, over him trying to recreate an old fashioned Russian dessert.—Huggo
