Roger Ebert credited as playing...
Self - Host
- Roger Ebert - Host: [reviewing "Carnosaur"] Now, I've gotta give you credit, though, Gene: In your original review of din- of "Carnosaur", you did correctly predict that Steven Spielberg's dinosaurs would be more convincing, and you were right about that.
- Gene Siskel - Host: I was right about that.
- Roger Ebert - Host: And all the major critics in America would agree with you.
- Gene Siskel - Host: No no, the, uh, yes, that's a better film. But the point is, this had a lot of fun going on with it, you liked her
- [Diane Ladd's]
- Gene Siskel - Host: performance THEN, and when I explained the story to you the first time, you said "Now I understand"...
- Roger Ebert - Host: Oh come on, now, you're making this up!
- Gene Siskel - Host: And Roger, here's the real...
- Roger Ebert - Host: What do you mean, "Now I understand"?
- Gene Siskel - Host: Here is...
- Roger Ebert - Host: Come on.
- Gene Siskel - Host: Here is the test. We'll have a double bill. People can go to see "Cop and a Half", Roger Ebert recommending it, or "Carnosaur", a funky, offbeat, wild science fiction film, which one will they like best?
- Roger Ebert - Host: Oh, now you...
- Gene Siskel - Host: Which one did YOU like best?
- Roger Ebert - Host: You you...
- Gene Siskel - Host: Which one did YOU like best?
- Roger Ebert - Host: "Cop and a Half"!
- Gene Siskel - Host: He said it again, ladies and gentlemen. Good.
- Roger Ebert - Host: And y'know, I love the way you describe that double bill, giving your own movie all the wonderful adjectives, and mine, giving it all the... yeah.
- Gene Siskel - Host: [reviewing "Cop and a Half"] Let's face it. I'll admit it: Burt Reynolds in a bad movie, and he's done so many, makes my skin crawl. He's unctuous and insincere in pictures like this. I like him in other films, in the bad ones, he's REALLY bad. And he also looks just plain tired. That has nothing to do with his personal life; I'm talking about what's up on the screen in "Cop and a Half". The only thing more unnerving than this picture is my esteemed colleague across the aisle, so wise, so often, is the only major film critic in America who actually recommended "Cop and a Half".
- Roger Ebert - Host: Y'know, Norman D. Golden was just wonderful in this film. Now you have to admit that.
- Gene Siskel - Host: No, I don't have to admit it. He's an okay movie kid, he's a, he's a Hollywood acting kid.
- Roger Ebert - Host: Oh, he was very good.
- Gene Siskel - Host: He's not the problem. The problem is the script...
- Roger Ebert - Host: He was very funny.
- Gene Siskel - Host: ...It's not funny, and Burt Reynolds is tired, and...
- Roger Ebert - Host: Maybe...
- Gene Siskel - Host: ...He shouldn't be in cop buddy pictures.
- Roger Ebert - Host: Maybe you just got up on the wrong side of bed.
- Gene Siskel - Host: As did the rest of America.
- Roger Ebert - Host: Okay, I'm not sure I'm the only major film critic...
- Gene Siskel - Host: I AM sure, Roger.
- Roger Ebert - Host: ...Who liked it, because you're probably saying anybody else who liked it isn't major.
- Gene Siskel - Host: I don't know if ANYONE liked it. But no major critics liked it. No one you respect.
- Roger Ebert - Host: Glad to see when I like a movie that you dislike, you have that national survey.
- Gene Siskel - Host: I'm aware of it.
- Roger Ebert - Host: Now, since your worst of the year is one that I liked, I'm only too happy to return the compliment, Gene.
- Gene Siskel - Host: Oh, that's sweet.
- Roger Ebert - Host: My worst film of 1993, to which YOU gave thumbs up, is "Carnosaur", an all but incoherent thriller that was rushed into release to cash in on the advance publicity for "Jurassic Park".
