Léa Domenach wrote and made the movie without consulting anyone from the Chirac family, as she wanted to be free from external influences. Claude Chirac made public her annoyance at this project in June 2022.
For several public scenes (for instance, the victory crowd scenes or the Hillary Clinton visit), a blend of archive videos, reconstitution and CGI was used, like for Forrest Gump (1994).
Director Léa Domenach had Catherine Deneuve in mind from the start of the project, but Deneuve wasn't interested in biopics. It's only after reading the script, which she found very funny, that she accepted the part.
The production title was "La tortue" ("The tortoise" in English), the main character's nickname as she was seen as slow and always behind.
While the movie makes it clear it is a fictionalized version of a part of Bernadette Chirac's life, the timeline is true to real events, as the writers watched and read everything they could get their hands on about the two terms of Jacques Chirac.
