Summaries

  • One castaway reveals a shocking secret to their tribe while another castaway, in a last-ditch effort to keep alive in the game, devises a plan and pretends to find the hidden Immunity Idol.

Synopsis

  • Previously on...: Coach led Upolu to an immunity challenge win, and Savaii sent spoken word artist Semhar to Redemption Island. Ozzy also found a hidden immunity idol, but told no one. He joined an alliance of five, including Jim, Keith, Elise and Whitney. Savaii won the next immunity challenge, and Brandon tried to get his tribe to vote out Mikayla, who he inexplicably doesn't like -- because she's sexy. Christine was voted out.

Redemption Island: Christine joins Semhar on Redemption Island, and they meet for the first time. Christine tells Semhar that Coach didn't like her. "He thinks he's King Farouk," she says. Christine thinks Coach had it out for her from the beginning (nevermind her immediate remark at the start of the game that Coach was "a temporary player.").

Upolu: Mikayla is wondering what she did to make Brandon want to vote her out. He now regrets all the scheming he did to try to oust Mikayla. He wants to be "someone that you could look up to."

The next morning, Upolu has to choose who goes to Redemption Island to watch the duel, Coach asks if he can go. He joins Stacey. For what it's worth, there isn't much mention of the selection, but Savaii sent Ozzy and Elise to Redemption.

Christine arrives and claims she "just articulated what everyone else was thinking" when she spoke up about sending Coach home. She says Coach then disliked her.

The duel: The players have to balance a small totem that's sitting on the top of a skinny pole. As time goes on, they'll have to add length to the pole from the bottom, making it more difficult to balance. The first to drop their totem loses, and is out of the game for good.

Semhar drops some long-winded spoken word that keeps everyone waiting until she's done. She says it calms her.

The duel is on and Semhar seems to be a little more shaky than Chrstine from the outset, but recovers well each time. Christine then also seems to start slipping a little, but that's when Semhar's totem takes a dive. She's out.

Semhar gets emotional when she says that being sent to Redemption Island reminded her of abandonment in her childhood.

Jeff reminds the spectators that what they decide to share with their tribemates when they get back to camp is up to them.

Christine tells us Coach is a dope because he wanted to see her lose.

Upolu: Brandon says God is not pleased with him for his lying and scheming over Mikayla, and he says he doesn't want to lie anymore. With the whole tribe sitting around, he makes a show of taking off his shirt to reveal his "Lil Hantz" tattoo. He confesses his big secret. Mikayla is taken aback and starts to question Brandon even more.

Coach tells us he thinks it was a mistake that Brandon told his secret. Coach says he still trusts Brandon, "but it's just maybe not in with both feet now."

Savaii: Ozzy comes in from the water with a big fish on the end of his spear. Papa Bear says everything is great now, but he knows he, Dawn and Cochran are on the fringe.

Ozzy says he and Keith have "a brother-type thing going on." He tells Keith he has the idol. He then tells Keith how much he trusts him. Keith immediately goes and tells Whitney. Keith tells Whitney and us that he's mad that Ozzy now holds all the power. Keith tells Whitney that Ozzy can't know that she knows.

Upolu: Mikayla pulls Brandon aside and asks him what he has against her. He admits he just wanted her out because he doesn't like her, but doesn't fully admit why. He claims that it's not just him, and that others in the tribe also don't trust him. In a testimonial, he tells us "Mikayla was coming at me like a bulldog." They return to camp and he makes a big speech about how he wanted her out of the game. He tells her to "look around and see who's really loyal and who's really not." He says it doesn't seem like she's got much of an alliance, then asks everyone to keep him "out of the drama." No one says anything.

Sophie has it all figured out, telling us in a testimonial, "There's a lot of tension between Brandon and Mikayla. I think, in physical terms, he'd probably call her, like, the Whore of Babylon. I think Brandon, right now, is just really torn between following whatever crazy, religious beliefs he has, and yet, at the same time, he, inherently in his bloodline, is just a devious jerk."

Mikayla cries on the beach all alone. Brandon also gets emotional when talking about how he really wants "to do good." He says the "good and evil" thing is a constant struggle.

Coach pulls Sophie aside and tells him Brandon spooked his own alliance and Mikayla. Coach tells us he's concerned, and is "hoping and praying" that Brandon has no more outbursts. Coach tells Sophie he does see a little Russell in Brandon, and she agrees, adding, "I just hope it doesn't bite us in the butt."

Immunity challenge: One member from each tribe walks into the water on a floating platform with a bodyboard in hand. At the end of the platform, he or she grabs a bag and hooks a rope into a giant winch that the other members of the team will crank to pull the retriever back to shore. Once five bags are collected this way, the rest of the tribe will pull the bags together (using a rope and hook contraption) and release the five banners, which are vertical puzzle pieces that form each tribe's flag.

Also on the line is reward: Cookies, tea, milk, coffee, sugar and other goodies. Also, the winning tribe will have another clue to the hidden idol.

Ozzy's tribe has trouble giving him enough rope to get to the end of the platform. Brandon takes an early lead for Upolu, but on the second bag, Dawn reclaims the lead for Savaii. Ozzy extends the lead while getting the third bag. On the fourth bag, Brandon catches up while Dawn struggles to get to the end of the platform, and Upolu reclaims a slight lead. Ozzy loses a handle on his board, allowing Upolu to take another slight lead, but it's essentially tied.

Retrieving the bags with the big grappling hooks on the end of ropes, Coach gives Upolu another slight edge. Coach is unfurling puzzle pieces for Upolu well before Savaii has collected all five parts, and Upolu has the puzzle done before Savaii even starts rolling out pieces.

Coach and his tribe celebrate. Jim tells us that Papa Bear "should've been the first one out" because he slows down the tribe.

Savaii: Cochran still thinks Savaii has the stronger tribe. Ozzy tells us it's "bad for morale." He says the tribe has to cut people who aren't good at challenges. He says Dawn did a good job, so it's between Papa Bear and Cochran.

Papa Bear and Cochran commiserate because the writing is clearly on the wall. It's one or the other, and whichever doesn't go today will go next time.

Ozzy pulls his group together and they all decide on Papa Bear, but they'll tell him it's Cochran. Ozzy goes and tells Cochran this very same thing. Cochran tells us it's bothering him that his name keeps coming up. He says he might do some last-minute scrambling, but he doesn't want to exacerbate the reputation he already has as "a nervous, neurotic scrambler."

Jim and Ozzy tells Papa Bear it's Cochran. Papa Bear tells us he's not stupid enough to believe that. He sets out to the jungle to find the idol. Elyse sees this and reports back to the group. She and Jim go follow Papa Bear and see him digging like mad.

Papa Bear is trying to pull a Yao-Man, and devise a fake idol that he's wrapped up and will try to play off as the real thing without showing it.

Back at camp, Jim and Elyse talk about whether Papa Bear may have found it. Cochran overhears all this. Then Papa Bear comes back to camp with a big smile on his face "and an extra-large bulge in his underpants," as Cochran puts it. Papa Bear tells Jim he dug for a while, and it was in reach.

Cochran knows that it's really no different to the tribe if they just switch their votes to him instead of Papa Bear. Ozzy, meanwhile, thinks it's hilarious that everyone's racing around stressing about the hidden idol when he already has it.

"I'm just hoping that nothing goes wrong," Ozzy tells us.

Tribal Council: Cochran says he's trying to make himself more of an asset to the tribe. Papa Bear, when asked, says Cochran's biggest problem is that he's going to be a threat to himself, physically.

Cochran says Ozzy is the de facto leader of the tribe. Papa Bear says he's usually a leader, but "the five" have control of the tribe.

Jeff asks Dawn about assimilating based on age or backgrounds. She says she, Papa Bear and Cochran aren't connecting with the rest of the group, but she says she sees it shifting and that it isn't "locked." Papa Bear interrupts and tells her, "You said you, me and Cochran. The truth is we're not in the five. We're not in the group, and it's OK to say that because it's real." Dawn says nothing.

Jim says he's not buying it. He says Papa Bear is scrambling because he's facing elimination.

Jeff reminds Ozzy that he was voted out holding onto an idol. Ozzy says an idol is "something that could change the game." He says he's keeping his eyes peeled when someone goes for a walk. Cochran says that frantically searching for an idol can erode your tribe's trust in you -- a last attempt at turning the attention back toward Papa Bear.

The vote: Jim votes for Cochran, just in case Papa Bear does have the idol. Cochran writes down Papa Bear's name because he makes Cochran anxious and he doesn't "need any more anxiety " in his life.

Jeff asks if anyone has an idol, and no one steps up.

The vote: Papa Bear, Cochran, Jim, Papa Bear, Papa Bear, and the third person voted out is Papa Bear.

Papa Bear's last words: "My strategy right now is to do every duel I can successfully, and if I get back into the game, I'm going to go to the blue team. Because I'm not going to go to the same team that just voted me out. I'm not stupid."
